I have never seen a DV camcorder (except for one early home video model from JVC) that did not have a FW connection.
I have had GREAT luck buying used miniDV “home video” camcorders and using them as spare “decks” and A-to-D-to-A video/audio converter “boxes”. I have bought MANY of these little gems at local Pawn Shops for UNDER $125 each (some for $99). The transfer quality in and out matches a deck, and the video/audio output (they all have S-Video outs) monitors great!
AND… If you choose a SONY or PANASONIC camcorder (except for the earliest-built versions of the Sony VX1000), those two brands will ALSO playback perfectly any DVCAM-recorded mini DV tapes as well as DV SP and DV LP (yikes!). -

It slows down the render time in proportion to the size factor.
Once rendered, as long as it looks good on an external monitor, you’ll be fine. -

I learned this one the hard way when sending approval copies of an edit to a client. Prompt apology and sending a disc that did work saved the relationship.
“ANY “burned” DVD may or may not play on a “who knows what kind of player” that a client has.
I always tell a client up front that since all DVD Players are different in their abilities to play certain discs, that the approval copy I’m sending may not play on her DVD player.
I tell them to try playing it in another player or on a computer.I’ve had Mac-burned DVDs not play on any given unit, but a DVD-R burned on a cheap set-top recorder worked great.
Its still hit-or-miss so I just let ’em know up-front.
If its really important in a time-crunch, I send a dupe on VHS at the same time.

They employ a photographer on the set with a high-quality still camera.

How the heck would THAT work?
I’m amazed that there’s even one CG with decent-looking fonts, effects, and a full-sized keyboard -AND FIREWIRE- for anywhere NEAR $1600.

I haven’t used THIS particular CG, but I have another version from this company.

There are built-in dissolves and other transitions so it can operate self-contained without a video swithcer.

That is what happens when you try to play DVCAM-recorded tapes on Canon equipment.
Just try playing this tape on ANY Sony or Panasonic camcorder (even an inexpensive “home video” model will work) or deck and it should play fine.

“Sweetening” is actually a very generic term like “production.”
Each project and each producer can have a unique set of sweetening steps.
Sometimes it correcting the pitch of the singer(s) voice or instrument.
Sometimes its adding strings or other instrumental or vocal tracks to round-out the mix.
Sometimes its where the extra “hooks” of drum-machines or other electronic percussive sounds or digital samples are added.
Sometimes it can just be the final mixing steps when the balance and selection of takes is decided.Its a very broad term and a very broad field of endeavor.
