The basic transition of production (films, drama, comedy, music, sports) is the cut .
It is simply the best “default”.Virtually all NLEs create a “cuts-only” multi-cam edit (including Avid).
After you’re finished making the camera cuts, you can go back and add any kind of transition you like.
Its easy in FCP to take a cuts-only edit and add the same dissolve (or whatever) transition in place of ALL the cuts in a single step.
To add Multiple Transitions:
Create the transition you want and make it your “Default Transition”.
(You can change the default by control clicking on it in the fx tab.)Range Select (Select All of) your clips on the timeline.
Drag this selection into the canvas -
The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).

The way I read the OP, I think “edr” is asking about VOICE-OVER work.
If that is the case, there are many mics for that pupose (and there’s no need for “wireless” in this case.)
I own and use several expensive studio condenser microphones.
But here is a link to a Mic that simply will work perfectly for VO work (and yes, it can make an “adequate” voice sound good and a “good” voice sound GREAT.)

The price is $59.99 (yes, that’s 1 cent under $60).I’m not kidding, this is a terrific mic. It requires Phantom Power to run (the standard is 48 volts, but I have easily run this mic on 12v -20v Phantom power from a battery-powered mixer.)
This mic also sounds quite good on string instruments and woodwinds.
It is very sensitive and can be over-powered by percussion and some brass instruments.
There is another version (for about $100 more) that has a 10db attenuator for use under LOUD conditions.Info on this mic has been posted on the COW many times and it ALWAYS gets surprised and grateful responses from those who buy it. There are hundreds (thousands?) of these mics in studios around the world.

FCP does have this “feature” if you buy the right analog capture hardware.
(As you noted below.)Basic FCP captures “digitally-direct” from DV (just transfers the DV “files” onto the HD) which does not require a “proc amp” adjustment.
I don’t need it on my system at one location, but I do at another.
I only needed to invest in the analog capture gear for one bay. -

That’s the “much lower speed” I’m talking about.
Full FF and REW in DV won’t show an image (same is true with most BetaSP decks)
Some decks have a menu setting for limiting the FF and REW to a speed that WILL allow the high-speed search.
Most camcorders and many decks simply hop up to “full speed” in FF & REW until you HOLD the FF or REW button down, then the tape drops down to a speed that allows viewing.
It may likely be 10x speed… which is NOT very fast (it would take 6 full minutes to rewind/search a 60 minute DV tape). -

The audio is, by default, MUTED to the Mac’s speaker output during Log and Capture.You should normally monitor the audio directly from the camcorder or deck you are using to capture (it is the preferred method).
CAUTION:
Many people have reported that noise or “pops” appear in the captured clips if the Mac’s internal audio is left on WHILE capturing… so may want to choose “Off During Capture.”However, there is a way you can turn ON the Mac’s speaker if you really WANT to:

In FCP4x and earlier:Final Cut Pro (menu) > Audio/Video Settings… > Capture Presets (tab)
“Duplicate” the Capture Preset you are now using, when the window opens rename it (I added “MacAudioOn” to the file name).
Click open the “Advanced” button in the Audio section and turn speakers to “ON during Capture.”
The Mac speakers/audio-out will now play Audio during the preview in the Log and Capture window.

Clip Settings, near audio buttons, choose: Preview: “ON”

DV does not SCAN in FF or REW in a camcorder (or even most decks).
It will “Search” but that requires the tape to move at a much lower speed than FF or REW.
During the FF* mode (no picture seen), hold down the FF* key.
The tape transport should slow down and a rapidly moving image will display.
Release the button and the image will drop out, and the tape will return to its higher FF* speed.(* or REW)

Best to be capturing and rendering to an internal drive that does NOT also contain the System Folder or FCP program.

WHICH GL2?
By that I mean there is no specific deck that will work well with “any” GL2.
You need one that works well with YOUR camcorder.
(The individual unit’s head-alignment is the issue here.)Just borrow ANY (even home video) DV camcorder or deck (borrow SEVERAL) and see how YOUR tapes play in each of them.
If you can find one that works, use it.Trial and error is the only way to tell.
