My thoughts are to REMEMBER that workaround!
I know lots of them for various situations.
I never heard the problem you described but congrats on finding a solution.Sometimes “things” just get corrupted. Trashing the prefs many times will fix them (but in this case, that wasn’t it).
Did you try making a NEW COPY of the timeline before you deleted the clips on V1?
Another might have been to Open a new BLANK timeline and edit from your first “iffy” version to the new one (still on separate distinct tracks.)

That should read “FireWire” (I wish I had paid attention in typing class).
You should choose to export with “Current Settings” (with are DV, in this case).
BTW, why not just make a DV TAPE and send it to the TV station?

Its the same file as making a FieWire copy to a tape.

You must have the audio and video set to External FireWire.
So, assuming you are in the USA (NTSC),
Use these settings:Final Cut Pro (menu) > Audio/Video Settings… >
Video Playback: Apple FireWire NTSC (720 x480)
Audio Playback: FireWire DV -

Rather strong negative ones.
Of all the DV tapes I’ve used, the Fuji’s have had the most problems.
I never have any head-clog problems (like the ones you described) UNLESS I’m using a Fuji.
I use mostly Panasonic (the least expensive consumer tapes they make).
I have run HUNDREDS of these in a Canon GL1 and a Sony PD150… with zero problems!
I got some Fuji tapes at another location where I do some work, and BANG… “head-clog city”.
Not ALWAYS… just enough to make me steer clear in the future.I recommend the Panasonic DV tapes.
From my limited research they seem to be the top choice of many DV shooters (and the price is VERY affordable).Here’s an example from ebay (I have bought many BRAND NEW tapes via ebay).
I’m not recommending this particular seller (as I don’t know him) but the price is typical. -

I doubt that you’ll ever get it into better shape, if its what I assume and was improperly connected to the wrong output on the “box” (mixer) in relation to the input on the camera.
I’m guessing that the output was LINE-level and the input in the camera was set to MIC-level.
This will resort in irreparable distortion.
There are many books about matching output to inputs, and you should spend some time with them as well as working with a good audio person to learn the techniques.
In the mean time, I suggest that if you don’t KNOW for SURE what kind of connections and settings to use, you’d be much better-off just using the on-camera mic.
If the track you recorded is in the condition you described (and I am assuming) it is quite likely beyond anyone’s help. -
