Before you send anything in for repair,
connect the GL2 directly to another DV camcorder or deck using FireWire and see if audio and video are passing through the FW port on the GL2 to or from the other DV unit.

That will tell you if the FW port is working.

I doubt it.

While playing the PPt, the computer will likely not connect with its audio input.

Does the “speaker” (I assume it’s a POWERED speaker) have more than one input?
And how would you adjust the relative levels of each source?

A small audio mixer will likely be your best option, but there are just too many unknowns at this point (balanced, unbalanced, mic-level, line-level) to give you the best answer.

You might want to create a NEW AIFF 48kHz file from the original mp3 and try using the new one.

The one you are using now might be corrupt.

The phrase in the title “Loss of feathered edges” and the OP quote of “For some reason, I have lost the ability to feather edges in my wipes…” assumes that something that had been previously working has stopped working.

Trashing Prefs has been a standard fix for anything that had been previously working… but has stopped.

If it operator error, then so be it.

Are you feeding a LINE-level (board) into MIC-level (camera) inputs?

Do one of the following:

1. Send MIC-level from the board, if the cam is set for MIC-level or

2. Set the camera’s input to LINE-level, if the cam is set for LINE-level or

3. Add a level-reducing PAD in-line with the cable coming from the board, to drop the level by a proper amount or

4. Feed the board into a small mixer that YOU can control during the shoot to trim the levels, if need be or

5. Some combination of the above.

And always (ALWAYS) wear good headsets DURING the shoot to continually monitor the quality of the audio at all times.

You say you didn’t feed the audio of the show into your camcorder.

But, is the CD you’re talking about one that was recorded off of the sound board feed of the “live show?”

If this is a CD recording of the audio of the band performing in the show you shot, assuming you did not stop your camera and the CD is a straight-through recording, the CD should match-sync your video perfectly.

Once synced at the head, it should not “slip” for the duration of the song.

A digital videotape and a digital audio track, both recorded at the same time, same performance, should hold sync.

It shouldn’t drift at all.

I’ve synced digital audio sources and digital video many times and had no drift whatsoever.

Give it a try.

Import and lay the CD audio to the timeline, then add all the “camera takes” above it.
