Loss of feathered edges??
Posted by Josh Evans on June 15, 2008 at 2:23 pmFor some reason, I have lost the ability to feather edges in my wipes. i.e. if i put an edge wipe between two clips, then try to feather the edges of the wipe, i click the feather edge tab, but no slider is underneath it, so there is no way to increase or decrease amount of feathering, so it stays at zero.
anyone know why this is?

June 15, 2008 at 2:24 pmSave youir work.
The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.
Next:
THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”Click the following link for instructions.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express) and a new one for FCP 5.Download these free Apple Scripts at

or

June 15, 2008 at 2:54 pmI see no feather edge tab. There is a checkbox, though. And the feathering is controlled by the border slider. As moronic as that is, that’s how it always has been.
No need to trash your prefs. That would be quite the hassle and still there would be no feather edge slider under the slider checkbox.

June 15, 2008 at 8:59 pmThe phrase in the title “Loss of feathered edges” and the OP quote of “For some reason, I have lost the ability to feather edges in my wipes…” assumes that something that had been previously working has stopped working.
Trashing Prefs has been a standard fix for anything that had been previously working… but has stopped.
If it operator error, then so be it.
