Absolutely nothing wrong with using iTunes to upsample a 44.1 kHz CD track to 48 kHz.

Break it into many short segments and edit on separate timelines.

Don’t re-combine them until you have all editing completed.

I’m in the midwest and that’s about a $750-$1000 job on DV.

It always COULD be just “that” particular disc.

Did you burn another to see?

Did you play the “bad” disc in another DVD player?

But let’s not forget that you CAN COPY AND PASTE KEY-FRAMES in the Avid effects window.
This means that ALL settings within a given effect can be duplicated and moved or added with a few keystrokes.

This is such a valuable function, that this feature ALONE makes Avid a better system to quickly build (and CHANGE) the timing and adjustment of effects.

If FCP would add this ability, it would make a WORLD of difference in my work-flow.

(And how about a border in FCP that can ALWAYS be added to the edges of any “box,” regardless of how it is cropped, simply by hitting a “Border” button?)

I edit on several systems every month.

FCP 3, 4, 5
Avid Media Composer-Mac
Avid Symphony-PC

I find I like FCP the best, but the high-end Avids are very fine machines as well.

It does take a lot of careful concentration to remember where all the controls are (and which keys work for what purpose) on each system.

I usually attract a dissenting comment or two when I post this info, but here I go again…

I own and use several expensive studio condenser microphones.

But here is a link to a Mic that simply will work great for VO work, choir and orchestra recording.
Its very sensitive with low noise, so it will work well for recording stage plays.

I’m not kidding, this is a terrific mic. It requires Phantom Power to operate.
The standard phantom power is 48 volts, but I have easily run this mic on 12v to 20v phantom power from a battery-powered mixer.)
If you’re looking at a Behringer mixer, they work great together.

A pair of these mics mounted in the right place can help you create a beautiful stereo recording.

This mic also sounds quite good on piano, string instruments and woodwinds.

Because it is very sensitive, it can be over-powered by the close-micing of percussion and some brass instruments.
There is another version (for a bit more money) that has a 10dB attenuator for use under LOUDER conditions.

Info on this mic has been posted on the COW many times and it ALWAYS gets surprised and grateful responses from those who buy it.

If your camcorder accepts XLR mics, and has a “phantom power” switch, you can record direct to a tape in the camera and capture the tape (a great method if you want Timecode on the voice tracks.)

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express) and a new one for FCP 5.
