Define ‘professional’
A pro newsshooter exposes so the footage can be used without any effort. If that means he has to turn on his ugly on cam LED blaster, he will do so. He’ll grab a flashlight if needed.

A pro feature shooter lights the scene to his liking, and probably avoids outdoor shooting as ther is very little time where the conditions are all the same for all the shots needed.

So, if you can shoot the way you want it to look, do so. As Gary stated, do NOT use Log.
If you need to gain more than you want to avoid noise, you need lights.
If you want some extra light to make it better, by all means, do so.

It’s quite simple, if it looks good, it is good.
Getting the work done in time and put your effort where it belongs is really ‘professional’.

First of all, what do you have to deliver? Why would you want to work in 24?
If it is broadcast, 23.976 would be the logical option.
(Not that it matters, you need to convert anyways at a certain stage…)
Getting from 29.97 to 24 will be ugly, from 24 to 29.97 interlaced will be good.

Why not conform the sound and do NOT relink for online? Your offline 48Khz sound will be good enough.
Upsample the 44.1 material if you must. (Wait a bit with that untill you’re done reading ☺

I can’t really help you with Plural Eyes, I truely hate it. And I think it was a stupid mistake to rely on that in the first place. (But as you stated yourself, the whole shebang is a mess, and no, you’re not the first one getting a plate like this served.)
Don’t you have any other methods of syncing? (TC being the most obvious choice.)
Clapperboard?
If you have access to the original sound files, and they have the original file creation time, that could be a start to get you at least close.

Don’t worry, a DCP can be 29.97 nowadays. (And no, there is NO decent way to go from 29.97 to 24, so be happy.)

Do however be VERY careful with interlaced material. (That means, also material with pulldown applied. If you do a doc, you probably have archive material somewhere.)
You MUST de-interlace, or it will be horrible when projected!

For the mixed resolutions: pick your poison.
Either 80% will look bad compared to the other 20% or all will look slightly less good than it could be.

I personally would go for HD and downscale, but that is just an opinion.

To add:
Avid does NOT use the filename as name in the bin.
Instead, it uses Scene and Take from the metadata inside the files.
If it looks like the filename that is only because the file has been named to the Scene / take.
(Try it, rename a file and re-import, the name in your Avid bin will not reflect the new name.)

To relink it ‘should’ use the UMID inside the metadata. (That is a unique number, guaranteed not to exist twice in the universe.)

Now, since I’m currently developing a BWF application, can you tell me how the folder structure from a Sound Devices recorder is?
(I know a lot about BWF files, but very little about recorders.)

I could make my Livecut app. available without connecting to a mixer.

This way you can shoot iso, press the cuts / transitions you want to make on your computer and have fall everything in place based on a good old EDL.

(And I would recommend also to run a logging application to take notes what to fix in post.)

I’ve done the same and it is no fun to have to watch hours and hours of stupid content for QC, so i totally relied on my notes.

It can have an alpha that is a solid, so it is there, but does nothing.
