No, i was NOT right.
I was thinking you had 48 Khz files, with a small adaption to compensate for speed.
You have files from a totally different recorder.
No soundrecorder for video records at 44.1

My take is that the drift comes from inaccuracy of the recorder.

So you have solved your problem yourself. Change the pitch to match and be done with it.
(oh, and since you’re going from 30 to 29.97, be prepared to do it again when you make that step…)

Sounds like the soundguy knew what you were going to do and flagged his sound to match 29.97.
(Pro recorders can do so, they just stamp a’wrong’ SR in the file.)

Have a close look at the sample rate in an audio editor.
I bet it ain’t 48K

So, do a test, convert to 29.97 and see what happens then.
Or, contact the sound guy, he’ll know what’s good for you.

My bad, i forgot…
(I get tons of email a day…)

Only way to overcome this problem is to render an ‘easy’ proxy file for Subbits to work with.
(Or have Subbits do it for you, but it cannot convert ProRes…)

The only way i could make this work with any file is NOT to put the titles as an overlay, but let them run (in sync of course) below the video.

(Or i should come up with another trick, like using a QT title track that gets refreshed every time you hit ‘play’)

If you have tried several solutions, you probably have tried Subbits as well.
If not, do so. (Free demo download from my site.)

But if you did try it, and did not like it, i’d like to hear why.
(I’m constantly updating it, so input is always appreciated.)

Do keep in mind that subtitling has little to do with editing.
It’s an art that involves translating / shortening, as well as timing.
And that’s what Subbits is about.
But it can export to a large amount of different files, including Flash XML and Windows media. (And of course FCP XML)

the fastest way to cut is cut every field.

For that you need a key signal that seperates the fields.
An example here:

If you use this as a matte between two layers, you get just a field of each one.
(put two clips on top of each other, apply image mask filter to the top one, drag my clip to the image setting)
If you watch on an interlaced client monitor, this will blink 50 / 60 fps

BUT, no idea how it will look after de-interlacing, and that will happen if you upload to Youtube or alike.

DV is lower field, but Avid dv is upper field, if you use the Avid DV codec (an option to choose on export)

at least in PAL, have not tried in NTSC.

You can’t do it straight out of the box.
However, there are workarounds.

Download the demo. It comes with a BWF / QT merge application.
With this app. you can put the BWF inside the QT’s, based on TC and BWF timestamp. Should save you from the tedious manual labour.
