You could add a field to every frame (render to 150 % speed, AE can do this, perhaps other apps too), then you have the same motion in a 25.5 FPS container. Set the timestamp to 25 using Cinematools, and adjust the audio likewise.
(small pitch shift, but not that bad)
You can then use a PAL preset.
Reverse telecine should be possible using AE again, but you must make sure you have no cadence breaks. (so you cannot cut on the progressive frames)

If you suspect the frame rate, go into the console and type

ignoreQTrate=True

And try again.

But i suspect something else. Even rendering the most comlex input to DNxHD should be faster than what you see.

Frame rate:
If your intention is to go international and your prime audience is NOT in NTSC world, shoot 23.976
If it is mainly for the cinema, shoot 23.976
(23.976 is always progressive)

If it is mainly for broadcasting in europe / pal world, shoot 25 interlaced.

Amount of CF cards is up to you. It highly depends on the amount you are shooting.
But in any case, you should offload during the shoot, or at least at the end of each day.
This to make backups and free your cards. Make 2 backups, one an exact copy of the card, and two, media ready to work with.

The card reader is unimportant, it is just transferring the data as it is. Buy a good one, or you will have broken / bended pins.
And bring 2 for safety / speed. (They are dirt cheap)

And they do not come off the card ready to edit, you need to do a bit more.

Most important, start testing the entire workflow before day one.
And the testing will take you two days…

Short reply, short of time so i have not read everything.

From memory:

Zoom H4n writes BWF.
Useless though, as all clips started at 00:00:00:00

BUT, there was a firmware update a time ago, doing it ‘right’, indeed TOD timestamps. (But since there is no way of syncing it, it is only partial handy, but better than nothing)

The easiest way to get rid of the BWF timestamps is to render them.
(can be to wave, qt or AIFF)
Or, use WaveAgent to reset the timestamp.

Now mind you, i’m not using the word Timecode for BWF, as it is not timecode, but a time stamp.
That can be calculated to timecode, but for the calculation you need the frame base.
(So, importing a BWF clip in a NTSC project will display a different timecode than if you import the clip in a pal project)

AC3 is normally for DVD.
So, in that case, render your QT to MpegII, marry them in your DVD authoring timeline.

(but i still believe there is no harm in changing the sample rate.
It is just putting a mistake on a mistake, but it won’t harm quality.)

Nope.
This is discussed weekly, without any clear cause / solution inside FCP.
You can export to Wave and use WaveAgent to change the samplerate.
Fixes the duration without changing the quality.

Personally i like the Output to XDcam.
(mount an empty XDcam structure in the root of a disk).
Nice small HQ codec, perfect for news broadcast and Edius likes the files well.

And to continue editing, Edius is FCP XML compatible, so Automatic Duck should do the trick as well.
