Only got one bottle in my hand right now, but…
IF YOU’RE SUBTITLING WITH THE AVID TITLE TOOL YOU SHOULD BE SHOT!
(in a good Zelin fashion)I’m subtitling 4 shows today with a total of more than one thousand titles. No crashes, no fuzz.
But then again, i’m using my own subtitler. Way faster transcribing, way easier timing / making changes, way less Avid trouble.
Check it out, and also learn that subtitling is NOT only the tools. Having the right tools makes it doable, but the translation / shortening is still the most labour intensive work. Outsource that to a pro translator with subtitle experience.

Of course there is a way. My AUX tc reader…
Downside, you need to sacrificy an audio channel.Load an entire tape and put the LTC out into one of your sound channels. Next, let my app. do its magic.
You’ll loose original TC for batch redigging, as it is of course not captured in “dig over tc breaks” (i could make a special version to get that back based on the AUX tc, but that’s probably not needed)Next, you’ll have to set FCP to work with AUX TC, but that’s a one time mouseclick in the TC window…

I totally agree with Grinner.
Making changes in any title tool is gonna be hell, let alone doing the transcribing/translation and timing.
(Eg, a lot of times you end up moving parts of text to other titles.)There is also a limitation in Marquee, from memory you can only do about 20 titles in one batch.
If you can be provided with bitmaps, someone is using a ‘real’ subtitling application to do the work. (Could be mine 🙂
Try to get an EDL as well. You won’t be able to auto link the titles to the EDL, but with a macro appl. and a dummy sequence you can do it automated, saving you tons of time.

Download it from my site if you like (demo is free, manual comes with that). My macro application demo works also fine for this, no need to buy the full version (although you are welcome to do so…) Macro is PC only at the moment….Bouke

Let me guess, you’re playing out different clips.
This thingy can do that, and a zillion things more that you do not have to use if you don’t want…But hey, it’s a free world. You wanted a cheap solution, i think this is dirt cheap for what it can do…

Few points:
I think you still need analogue sync for this deck. But who cares?
Get a bb gen and be done with it…The UVW can playback and record CC. Go into the menu and set the lines to ‘trough’ instead of blank.
The UVW CANNOT insert VITC itself, but just records it fine if it’s part of the input signalGotcha on recording on the SX, if you do an audio insert without feeding it video too you will destroy your recording.
If you can afford it, do so. Image quality is better than from the (imho crappy) output of the uvw
