November 10, 2015 at 10:13 am in reply to: Editing RGB 4:4:4 footage from Canon C300 MKiiI’m trying to do exactly the same without luck unfortunately. PP CC is just so boring to use after FCPX so I’m just hoping Apple sort it in the next few days with an update.
Bit of a major bummer really and the camera has been out for a couple of months now so what gives Apple!?!
Many thanks,

January 28, 2014 at 3:41 pm in reply to: Quotes on FCPX from a guy who worked on FCP at apple for six years.Hi Andreas, just checked in to see if you were still mouthing off at FCPX.
I’ve been using it since its first incarnation, which despite the fun magnetic stuff, was full of bugs and not much use to anyone. That’s all very different now and unless you’ve been using it for any amount of time I’m not sure you are any longer in a position to criticise. It does all the important stuff, it’s fun to edit on, it’s powerful and I just cut five 4k films on my 2010 imac using the proxy file option, which worked perfectly with hardly any noticeable loss of picture quality – used my proxy files to grade because they looked so great and then switched to the original footage with a click of the mouse, KABOOOM!
All NLEs have their particular idiosyncrasies but the only one with the magnetic timeline that I know of is FCPX and the thought of reverting to Premier, Avid or any other platform makes my stomach turnover.
I’m sure you’re not afraid of change but continually putting down FCPX when so many ‘professionals’ including myself are very happy indeed using it is just tiresome. Editing is fun now (if you put the time in) and when it clicks and you get over the old way of working, it’s as revolutionary as the recognition that THERE IS NO OTHER (as in God, higher being etc).
FCP, Avid, Premier all good, but this is FCPX.
Many thanks,

November 30, 2011 at 8:34 pm in reply to: FCP X – Can’t export my edit – Quicktime error -50Well this is a weird one!
Through process of elimination I have worked out that the the cause of the problem is a ‘slide push’ transition.
These transitions were placed on the primary storyline and for whatever reason stopped me from being able to export the project.
There it is. Now I just have to work out how to get them back in!!
Many thanks,

Ok so I just trashed the preferences and it’s still doing it.
I’ll do a screen flow clip so you can see exactly how it’s happening for me and maybe test it again on your machine.
Here it is:

I’ll try that.
Would you be so kind as to remind me exactly which ones to delete.
Many thanks,

For me, if I zoom right out of the project, then zoom in four times with cmd+, then try clicking at different points on the timeline, the CTI magically disappears.
Is this not happening for anyone else?
Very happy to see the title bug fixed though.
Many thanks,

The zooming bug is still on 10.02 for me. Try clicking onto different parts of you timeline in all of the magnifications. Why is this crap still happening??

I have a Project that I want to back up to another drive along with the associated media from the main Event.
The reason that I need to consolidate project media is that the Project also references two other clips in two other Events and obviously the intention is to just have FCPX copy those two files to the main Event to avoid having to copy the whole of the two other referenced Events. It does not do this for me and simply states that all of the media is already in one location when it clearly isn’t according to the modify references section.
Is that any clearer?
Many thanks,
Boris J.

September 8, 2011 at 12:04 pm in reply to: FCPX – consolidate media does nothing for meSorry I didn’t make it clear that I do in fact want to consolidate to another drive, the point being that despite the project referencing 3 events, FCPX does not want to consolidate project media. It says everything is already in the single event, when it clearly isn’t.
I copied and pasted a title from another project into the current one and it is this single file that is being referenced.
So the question is why does the Consolidate project media function not copy over those two files into the main event, thus ‘Consolidating project media’?
Many thanks,

I’ve been cutting with FCP X since it came out and initially I was in the same throw the baby out with the bath water camp.
A couple of months down the line, I’m loving the new way of editing despite having to learn a new way of editing. I also tried CS5.5 for one project recently but I found that I was missing FCPX’s media management tools, the fantastic way of displaying your footage so that it’s all there and skimmable giving you faster access to what you want, not to mention the very useful new publishing tool with Motion 5, which is just huge!!
My complaints (and I see that most if not all of your points came up during my own experience) were mostly to do with the fact that I was trying to superimpose my tried and tested ways of editing in FCP7 onto FCPX and I quickly learnt that that does not work.
Most if not all of your points are problems that can be worked around easily and that are to do with not fully understanding the new way of working in FCPX. And while I think of it, dragging from the centre circle in the transform mode will lock along an axis. All the answers to your points are ont Tinternet. Oh yes, another one is that you can create disc images for archiving projects so that FCPX doesn’t load it on startup. Etc, etc.
When it finally clicks and you find the solutions to those annoying little quirks I think this new FCP will put a smile on your face.
Many thanks,
Boris J.
