Editing RGB 4:4:4 footage from Canon C300 MKii
Trying to import Canon C300 MKii RGB 4:4:4 12-bit 2k footage into FCPX 10.2.2 with no luck. DaVinci Resolve 12 lite will not accept it either. Premiere Pro CC 2015 is the only app that will import it.
Has anyone experienced anything different?
Would like to use this format for green screen work and edit in FCPX. Any workflow suggestions would be appreciated. I could convert all the files to ProRes444 in Premiere, just not ideal.

I’m trying to do exactly the same without luck unfortunately. PP CC is just so boring to use after FCPX so I’m just hoping Apple sort it in the next few days with an update.
Bit of a major bummer really and the camera has been out for a couple of months now so what gives Apple!?!

Has a driver for FCP X… might work?

Thanks for the reply but that looks to be a C300 driver, not for C300 MKII.
As a temp solution, I’ve been able to use Adobe Media Encoder to batch transfer the files to ProRes 4444.

Has anyone come up with the correct workflow for this yet?
I’ve been able to apply some of the Clog2 LUTs in Resolve but the files have to be converted just so Resolve can see them.

For the 12 bit footage, I’ve been transcoding in Adobe Media Encoder to ProRes444 and then adding the Clog2 LUTs in FCPX with LUT Utility.

Dan, I tried this, and Media Encoder seems to hang when I start the transcode. It can scrub the 12 bit 444 clip OK, so I know it can “see” it, but it just doesn’t move forward on the transcode. Could you export/zip up the preset you’re using & send it to me? Perhaps there’s something wonky with the custom preset I created. I’m editingfx@gmail.com Just shot a bunch of test footage, and didn’t realize I’d be stuck on the FCPX connection. Thanks!

I’m using Media Encoder CC 2015. Just selected format “Quicktime” and codec “Apple ProRes 4444”. Nothing else.

Well, spit. Not sure what happened before… ME appeared to be “stuck” on the first frame, but no error, and the time remaining was running. Just did it with your setup, and it worked. Still seemed to hang for a few seconds (ie, the blue progress bar wasn’t moving) but then it took off. I was messing with a few more encode settings, beyond the default after selecting ProRes 4444, so maybe it was op error.
Right, now just need Canon/Apple/someone to give us a native import for 444.
OT – anyone know which external recorder works with Canon RAW? That is, it records RAW. We have a Atomos Shogun, which sees the RAW, but records as ProRes 422.

Hi Bob – a bit late to this conversation, but as I’m preparing to use C300 Mk2, are you saying you can record 4k externally as a ProRes 422 file? If that is the case do you know the bit rate?
