8 bit uncompressed is easy. Any Firewire 800 drive will do (G-Tech, Lacie, StorCase), and SATA drives will do (Firmtek, DR Group, Sonnet, ProMax), and of course any SCSI array from HUGE Systems, etc. will work.

They ALL work. For 8 bit uncompressed.

Hi Tom –
I have your answer, and an even easier answer for you. Open the Kona Control Panel, and you will see in one of the input tabs, the ability to choose AES audio or Embedded audio. The Kona control panel is NOT part of FCP – it is a seperate little program. BUT you dont even have to worry about the AES feed. All Sony and Panasonic VTR’s have embedded audio in the digital video stream. You can simply choose embedded audio, and if you see a SDI or HD SDI picture, you will also get the audio along with it – as long as you choose EMBEDDED audio in the Kona Control panel.

The AJA HD10A will convert your HDV VTR analog HD component out to HD SDI.
The AJA HD10AMA will take the analog outputs of the Sony HDV VTR and embed them into the HD SDI serial stream. The Addenda RS 4/L will convert the LANC deck control to RS422 for the Kona 2. If you are an “AJA guy”, this is the way to go. But Miranda introduced this product at NAB2005 in April, and Convergent Design is about to release the HD Connect, which will also do the same job.

My #1 choice (of course) is with AJA/Addenda, and I am sure there will be nothing wrong with Convergent Design’s product as well. All here are small companies that have great tech support. As for Miranda, this once tiny company has become a giant, and if things don’t work out, I would’nt hold my breath for great tech support – ALTHOUGH I am sure the product works, and Miranda products in general are very good.

If you do crap like this, you will encounter the problems you are running into. It is simple to simply hookup the single firewire cable from the AJA box into the CPU you are working on, with no issues. When you want to hook up to another CPU, simply change the cable.

I have no idea of what you are refering to as a “digital expander” – nor do I care. Your “dropped frames” issue can be multiple issues, and you have not described your system in detail – we have no idea of what type of drive arrays you have, and how they are hooked up. If you are using Firewire 400 drives, and they are in this Firewire mess, then you will most certainly have problems.

A nice boring Laird or TecNec firewire patch bay will allow you to route
your single AJA product into several MAC G5’s. If you want to pop in a DV VTR into the firewire port, you can do this thru the firewire patch bay.

Your source selector is confusing to me. Laird makes various audio/video
source selectors, and they also make a DV transcoder. The Laird source
selector can switch baseband audio/video signals into your AJA I/O, but you CANNOT use the Laird DV transcoder product at the same time you are using the AJA I/O product.

If you would like more details, you will need to provide more sysetms information.

yes, at 23.976, and at 24, I recommend using a tri level sync generator to lock both the Decklink HD and the D5. The Blackmagic Multibridge Studio will come with a tri level sync generator built in – they didn’t do this because they were bored.

I have not read all of your posts. The Sonnet Card wants to be in slot 2 or 3, and the Kona 2 wants to be in Slot 4. I have never tried using BOTH a Sonnet and ATTO UL4d, I have no idea if this would work or if there would be any conflicts, but if by some miracle it did work, the Sonnet and the ATTO would have to be in Slot 2 and 3, and the Kona 2 in Slot 4.

I can assure you that the Kona 2 and the Sonnet Tempo eSATA 8 port work fine together.
