oh, go plug all this stuff in. It will be outdated in 9 months anyway, so what do you have to lose ? (It all works fine). Run latest version of everything.

the JVC BR-HD50 has analog component HD outputs. It also has RS422 control. The RS422 control connects directly to the AJA Kona 3 product. The purpose of the AJA HD10AVA is to convert the analog HD to HD-SDI to go into the HD-SDI input of the Kona 3, while embedding the analog audio of the JVC BR-HD50 into the HD-SDI stream. I love Convergent Design products, but this is the wrong product for this application.Bob Zelin

that’s a damn good question. You should put the Kona into slot 3, the SATA into slot 4 (I guess you can put the Fibre into slot 4 as well) – but you can’t have any “1 lane” slots, they must be (I think) 4 lane slots for every one of these cards (4 lanes minimum) – so I guess you have to use the expansion slot utility to reconfigure so you can make slot 2 into a 4 lane – but I don’t know what the limitations are (I havn’t done what you are trying to do yet). Great question though !

no audio sync issues – this is documented in every review of this camera, and this is now admitted by Canon, who has stated that they have resolved this issue with the new camera.
I don’t know how you don’t have a 3-4 frame audio delay issue, unless you are not that critical about this.Bob Zelin

this camera has an inherent delay between the analog audio output and the HD-SDI video output, and there ain’t no embedded audio on this camera. Canon is aware of this, and the “next gen” camera has embedded audio in the HD-SDI stream, but there are no plans on fixing this problem with this camera. As for VTR control, plug in your FW cable, and control it that way – but this ain’t no Sony or Panasonic VTR, so don’t expect it to act like one.

close FCP – just use the Kona Control Panel for now. If you play your VTR thru your Kona LH3, and have the correct input selected – do you get audio and video ? If you don’t reload your drivers. If this still does not work, contact AJA support. Don’t waste time with FCP right now, until you are convinced that your Kona LHe via the control panel is working correctly.

you can use standard NTSC black, or tri level sync. If you are operating at 29.97 or 59.94, a cheapo black gen will work just fine. If you are cutting at 23.98, and outputing to a VTR at 23.98, you should have a tri level sync gen. Most people that shoot at 23.98 allow the VTR to do the 2:3 pulldown to 59.94, and just edit normally – in this case, you would still use a cheapo NTSC black gen.

whenever I am outputting material from FCP to a deck (lets just say dbeta) my boss always makes me feed an input back into Kona …..why is that? What happens if there isnt a input being fed back to the Kona while Im outputting from the Kona???
REPLY – why, nothing happens. Why don’t you try it – play the Kona back into your VTR, and disconnect all inputs to the Kona. Make sure that your Kona is either set to FREE RUN in the Kona control panel – or if you own a black generator, make sure that it goes to the Reference In of the Kona, and Ref Video In of the VTR, and that your Kona Control panel is set to EXT REF. I don’t know what Voodoo he is preaching, but you don’t need to have a input back into the Kona to do an output.

look under the preference menu to turn off the abort feature, but first – tell me exactly what storage you have and what resolution you are working at.
