I am glad you found a solution with YoYotta. I want to be clear about this, since many of the people that participate on Creative Cow are older now. (old bags – or as Reddit refers to us, as Boomers) – because I am active on Reddit in many video forums. YoYotta is GREAT software. But in fairness to other manufacturers, so is Hedge, and so it PreRoll Post. As I am becomming an old man (as many people here are, and have been doing this for decades), I intend to die on these forums, and I intend to die doing this (no different than Charles McConathy did when he owned the REAL ProMax in Irvine California). You have to move on. Even if you are an “old man” – you cannot remain an “old man” if you are dealing with this technology. Magstor is great. YoYotta is great (as a side note – if any of you want to know what Martin at YoYotta looks like in person – he looks just like Elvis Costello – and if you don’t know who that is – well SCREW YOU – because ELVIS Costello is COOL !!!!!). The world move on. YoYotta has been keeping up, and they have great LTFS firmware. So has Hedge. I am not going to die being one of those “oh, there was nothing better than those CMX days, those 1″ Sony and Ampex VTR days” – screw those old useless people. You have to keep up. And YoYotta keeps up. Magstor keeps up. Hedge keeps up. And then we die.

you do know, that LTO5 is over. We currently live in the LTO7/LTO8 world. Modern drives won’t read LTO5 tapes.
and
LTO drive generations 1-7 are able to read tapes from two generations prior and are able to write to tapes from the prior generation.
LTO-8 drives can read and write to LTO-7 and LTO-8 media, including
LTO-7 Type M.LTO-9 drives will be able to read and write to LTO-8 and LTO-9 media only.

type in LTO. You will find the OWC Mercury Pro that OWC is currently selling. It says on all products “Includes ArGest Backup Software”. But if you search for ArGest or Argest Backup software, you see nothing. If you google ArGest Backup Software, you find nothing. When I go to http://www.owc.com, I see all the other brands from OWC, but not Tolis, not ArGest and not Bru. SO – what if these wonderful people on this forum simply want to purchase an ArGest license ?

where did you get this equipment list ? From me ?
Your TVS-h1688X needs two 480 Gig SSD drives to hold the ZFS operating system. You build this first. Then the RAID group, as a single thin provisioned RAID – RAID 6. I can’t believe you are using 4TB drives – such a waste – get bigger drives. You will regret only having 40TB of storage in this system. The QSW-M1208-8C is being held up for firmware updates, but this should be resolved within the next 2 weeks. It’s a great switch (it had some minor issues – and those are being fixed right now). You don’t need to LACP the 2 10G ports to the switch (you can for fun, but it’ won’t help you with this small system, and only 6 or 7 client computers). Use cheap Cat 6 cabling for up to 180′ (55 meters) for everything.
trust me on those drives – get bigger drives. Price out Seagate EXOS with larger drives – it will be the same price as you have on the WD RED Pro 4TB drives.

either I was not clear (I often am not !) – or you did not understand my post. Those 3 products you list are for Thunderbolt 3 computers, not a 2013 6,1 Mac Pro that uses Thunderbolt 2. If you have Big Sur running on a 2013 6,1 Mac Pro, the ONLY product you can use is the Sonnet Solo 10G T2 (thunderbolt 2). You cannot use one of the T3 products, and stick a T3 to T2 adapter on it – there is no enough power on a T2 port to power any of these T3 adapters.
If you have new Thunderbolt 3 computers, I would recommend the QNAP QNA-T310TG1T for $183. It’s just plugs in and works on a Thunderbolt 3 Mac running Big Sur. No drivers to install. And you better start to realize that no matter how perfect your 2013 Mac Pro is – you better start thinking about the reality that you are at the end of the road with this product.

you guys need to GROW UP, and realize that ITS OVER. You need to MOVE ON to a modern LTFS solution. This is what OWC is doing. This is what Imagine Products, YoYotta, Hedge Canister, Archiware, and the entire HP Ultrium Group is doing. You need to WAKE UP and move on with your lives, and get a modern system, and just stop this nonsense.
