I can tell you that I recently installed a 10G QNAP, and was connecting via SMB (SMB3 for Mac’s with El Capitan and Yosemite).
Client would call me to complain that they would get random disconnects, like you were getting (they were blaming the switch, since it was happening on all client computers). I had them connect via AFP, and the problem was instantly gone.I greatly value posts like yours, because if people dont’ talk about this publically, you think that “its only you”.

Everyone has given up on Adobe Premiere, and AVID Media Composer.
And Davinci Resolve, and Vegas, and everything else.
It’s only FCP – X in the entire world, except for 3 people. And they are idiots. All the Hollywood features and TV shows are actually done in FCP-X – all the other stories you see about AVID are all lies
from jealous people.Now Dan, it is your responsibility to invest every last penny that you own in Apple stock right now, and even if there are a few dollars left, either run out to the Apple store and buy everything you can, or just start downloading Apps from the Apple App store. And make sure to get at least 10TB of storage space on iCloud.

but that is pretty much what everyone uses.The market will continue to be in flux. It always has –

and now all the wonderful choices that will continue to be wide spread.There never has been a time where you can say “learn this, and you don’t have to worry about anything else”. Your lecture (since you are in the education business) is that if you ever get lazy after learning software XYZ, and think that you will stick with it for the rest of your career, you will be unemployed soon. Continuing education, and constantly being aware of changes in ANY industry is key to success.

you ask excellent questions.You are not clear to me as to where your media is. It cannot be on your iMac. It needs to be on a RAID array that has multiple drives in it, so that it is fast enough to edit your 4K media. Why do you need to still back it up – because all these products suck. Even the $80,000 professional products suck. Drives fail.
Electronics fail. One day (and it’s when, not if – it will fail), you will lose all your media, and be screwed, even i you spend $80,000 on the top of the line RAID system. Backup is a fact of life with modern equipment and dealing with SATA disk drives. You have some protection with RAID 5 and RAID 6 drive arrays, but things still can go wrong (and do go wrong, as I deal with all the time).you cannot edit with media on the internal drive of your computer – period. You must have external storage. It should be a RAID array, and unless you like living dangerously, you should back that up as well.

there is no second port on the Mac Mini – it’s the same buss.
You should be running a 2013 Mac Pro with 6 thunderbolt ports (3 busses) for this many computers.
And you should have a dedicated 10G switch for your network.I cannot locate you. Are you Julian Poon the Harvard attorney in LA ?

45 clients on a Mac Mini with a single thunderbolt port ? And you have the Netstor and the dual R6’s on the same thunderbolt buss ?
You did not say what SFP+ card is in the Netstor, but this too is on the same singe buss !
A 24 bay, with only 12 drives in a RAID 10 config ?I guess your vendor does not have too much experience doing this.

I am always amazed to see posters, comment on new products (in your case h3platform), that no one has ever discussed or metioned. Where on earth did you hear of h3platform.

QNAP is wonderful (I use these all the time now – the EC1680 is amazing).
and of course EVERYONE ELSE that makes 10G systems (everyone else is everyone you see here on Creative Cow) makes wonderful systems that will obsolete your old XSAN/Promise system. You can find every one of these companies right here on Creative Cow.If you are comfortable with XSAN, and want to continue with it, the Accusys will use this server with their system, and you can connect Thunderbolt directly (up to 3 users).
Yes, 10G does the speed of Thunderbolt. And everyone sells it, including all the companies that you mentioned.

Blackmagic and AJA do not make a hardware solution to accelerate the transcode of your software files from one format to another.Use Telestream Episode Pro for what you are doing. You will get the best results.
