I’ve always wished that NLE devs would use Quantel’s term; “CRF” – Cutting Room Floor. Felt like the hanging bins were just outside the room.

I’m not going to be sitting down for a few days, what with all that spanking! But I do have to admit it was deserved. I think my disdain for camera card backups came from years of working with P2 media and FCP7. The original card and imported ProRes were similar in size, so no dramatic space savings there. Between protected RAIDs and backups, footage was secure. Never an issue.
But now with X’s HQ transcodes & proxies, I get the advantages of holding on to camera card images of compressed formats.
Still though, it’s not unusual for me to shoot with a tethered camera recording straight into ProRes, or RED SSD’s, for example. Not going to be making card images from those.
With that last thought, is anyone using a DIT app? Something that confirms/checks data transfers?

Right. Coming from camera card, like I said in the OP. And the point was, when you’ve hundreds/thousands of clips, and a camera card that you want to confirm was imported, by simply looking for the white bar, you can confirm it was imported. Instead of having to search clips in the event browser. Don’t even need to look at the event browser. White bar = done.

Not exactly – the camera icon is different than the white bar, but you are correct as to it’s function.
The white bar indicates a fully imported clip from the camera card. Great for making sure a card is good to be formatted.

Seems like for the times that I use it now, TL Index isn’t too many clicks. I think I used Select Forward far more often in Legacy, where the advantage of using a mag TL wasn’t available. As I recall, I usually used s/f to open up a gap in Legacy, or paste attributes. Much faster using a gap clip or clip searches in the index.

Seriously, though, no mention I could find (though I didn’t watch the entire vid) of latency. I’d love to know how they’re achieving 0 lag time between remote editor’s keyboard & the streamed result.
And then there was this: “With the upload speeds we have available to us, we are able to provide review/approvals to our director the same day.” Maybe in Austin, home of the new AT&T GigaPower (300Mbs-1Gbs) service, but not in most hotels & facilities I’ve been at in the US. Uploading a few hundred GB in the US tends to be a “paint drying” experience.
