No, I couldn’t open any of them. Assuming you mean can I open QT, go File>Open File. Go into the Contents folder and try and select one of the .mxf files. No.
I also tried importing the files in Premiere Pro from CS3 and it sort of opened them. It gave me an error that they weren’t supported and then listed the files in my bin as separate video, audio and other sorts of files. When trying playing each of them, it wouldn’t really play them properly. I chalk that up as a problem w/ Premiere on my Mac because I’ve never really been able to edit w/ it..not even DV stuff. Files don’t play properly…as if the Mac isn’t powerful enough to play them. Scanning though these files, it gave me stills of the footage..even the SD test clips. ??

I tried the free demo of P2 viewer and it didn’t really want to play the first clip either. 1st clip because it says the demo only allows you to import one clip. it shows a thumbnail of the 1st clip and seems to play the audio but there’s no moving video being shown…just the first frame of the clip.

The only things I can select in Acquire & Import or Render are:

Media 100 HD (8bit or 10bit),

Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2

The rest listed like DVCPRO HD and Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2 are grayed out

I assumed it may be a lack of a codec problem. I’ve read that I may need FCP to get them. Is that what I need to do? My university’s Art dept has it and I may be able to go over and copy the needed codecs from the QT>Library folder on their macs. ??

Oddly, I tried it once a while back when I had some sample P2 footage to play with. That lastclip txt file wasn’t included so I couldn’t play with it but….anyway…

Further proof; I have a Media100i system (v.8.2.1) that’s been running like a champ for years. It’s running on a Mac G4 867 MHz processor, 1.5 GB RAM, OS 10.4.11, QT 7.5 (I will not install new QT!!) and a Vincent Card. Renders could be faster but it still edits fine. I also have a couple systems running Producer 11.6.

I attend an annual Apple Digital Campus Leadership Institute in my state each Spring and one of our Apple guys said last Spring that Apple had a ton of its engineers working on developing touch-screen technology and when I heard that I immediately thought it was Apple’s answer to competing w/ HP’s touch-screen tablet PCs. Maybe you guys are correct about expecting touch screen Apple laptops soon. Not sure about Oct. ’08 but maybe soon. ???

Turn off everything else which is running in the background – use Autoruns.
1. Is this a Mac or PC thing? I’m running on Macs.
Mac Pro desktop: Mac OS 10.4.11, 2 x 2GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 2 GB RAM, running Premiere Pro CS3 v.3.2.0
MacBook Pro laptop: Mac OS 10.4.11, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, running Premiere Pro CS3 v.3.2.0

Can you import the video via Firewire to Windows Movie Maker or some other simple video product?
2. I’ve got no problems importing and outputting analog video from Media100 Producer which is loaded on both of my Macs via firewire or my Canopus ADVC110 box.

Change cables.
3. I don’t see a need to do this because they work w/ other apps. I have used 2 different firewire cables though.

Change cameras. Find a friend with Firewire camera and see if you can capture with it.
4. The Panny HVX200 isn’t mine. It’s borrowed. Mine are a Canon XL-1, GL-1 and a Panny DVCPRO camcorder (analog.)

You could even install CS3 on a laptop and see if you can capture.
5. Done. PPCS3 is loaded on a MacBook Pro as well as my Mac Pro desktop. Same problems on each system. Not sure if it’s something I’m doing wrong prior to capturing. I do select the appropriate device settings. It has told me the capture setting weren’t set but I’m not sure what that means.
My capture format is Quicktime, Capture Locations as same as project and the device control options get changed based on what deck/camera I’m trying to capture from.

If I was doing a slide show like that and it featured that many pics I’d find any way possible to use a program like a DVD authoring program (ex. DVD Studio Pro.) A slide show that long would be so tedious and painstaking in an editing app. Of course, if all you have is that old power Mac you’re probably S.O.L. I feel your pain. I ran v.4.5 for many years and have been using v.8.2.1 on a G4 since (same Vincent card.) It still works like a champ so I can’t see retiring it. I do have a couple of Producer v.11 systems too. I also saw a live demo of Newtek’s SpeedEdit a while back and doing programs like yours seemed really easy and fast on it too.

I’ll add that I played w/ this some more today and I tried capturing via my Canopus box and from my Canon XL-1 on Premiere Pro CS3 loaded on my MacBook Pro laptop and go the same results. Please help.
