Sure, we’ve got a few NLEs. I’ve got 2 desktop stations and 1 laptop station (all Media100) and our fine arts dept has a few FCP desktop stations.
We use the studio a couple times a week regularly and periodically at other times. We run our city’s govt. access TV channel. We do weekly, multi-cam talk shows for our local public school system and humane society. We’ve got a chromakey wall in there if anyone wants to shoot some green screen stuff. I’ll also use the studio for tight, one-shots for promotional videos and such for the univ.

I was also thinking I could simply go w/ a Canopus bi-directional analog-to-firewire converter box. Thus, if a student came in wanting to master to miniDV they could use their camcorder as a record deck. Plus, I could record straight into my laptop editor if I wanted to.

To add…..basically ProAnimator is telling me (about my AI file)… “There were no usable vector paths in this file. Make sure that you save Illustrator files with Compression OFF.”

also wondering if hooking camera up to the firewire 800 port instead of the 400 port would cure this or if 16 bit vs. 12 bit audio would have anything to do w/ it. ???

Thanks for the tip in the hard drive Kieran. I have had the MacBook Pro for a few months and that’s the machine I first started having this problem on so when I recently acquired a MacPro, I wanted to see if it did the same thing. It does. ??? I hope it’s a bug. That means I’m doing the right things and it’s something that can be addressed. ???

I use Media 100i v8.2.1. I also have a MacBook Pro w/ Producer on it but I’m having issues with it in that for long clips (10 min+) video and audio get out of sync. That’s a question for another time because that system is basically useless to me until I figure out why it’s doing that. One told me to not try and run media off the internal hard drive because they aren’t fast enough and that maybe it’s actually not dropping frames or is out of sync, just not playing properly off the drive. Anyway, if I can use my Media 100i system for this, I’d prefer it.

Not sure. I’ve never heard of locked and unlocked DV audio. It was recorded on a Canon XL-1 and I don’t recall seeing an option like that when choosing in 12 bit.

Thanks for the post. I will add that I recorded my audio in 12-bit 4 channel mode on a Canon XL-1 because I was using a feed from the audio board on ST-2 (channels 3 & 4) and some wireless mics at the front of the stage on ST-1 (channels 1 & 2.) Maybe the camera detected 12-bit mode and changed something when digitizing via firewire. ????

I’m honestly not sure if it’s a dropping frames issue or sync issue. All I know is that I taped a 50 minute play performance that was divided into two 25 minute acts. After laying the 2 acts on my timeline and viewing them, I could clearly see an issue where the audio and video of each clip did not match. It matched at the beginning of each act but after about 15 or so minutes, you could clearly see the dialogue did not match the actors’ lips. To quickly compensate for this and get the program dumped to tape, I split the clips at black curtain fades later down the timeline before the audio began to get out of sync. Then, I unsynced the audio from the video and slid the video track down the timeline about 5 frames and it then matched the audio. Lastly, to fill in the empty gap, I stretched the previous video track (before the split) 5 frames during a black curtain fade so the viewer would never see the jumpcut. It was a fairly easy fix but I’m worried that if I digitize future long clips into the editor that I’ll consistently have to deal w/ audio and video matching problems. Floh, you mention this may be an issue where the hard drive isn’t fast enough to play the media back properly. That could be possible. I’m using the laptops internal hard drive. I know, I’m not supposed to use the computer’s boot drive but I just got the laptop and figured I’d try editing a program with it to see how it worked.

A rep from media 100 called me just now and echoed your thoughts. I’m downloading the newest version now and will see if it works. The reason we got 11.5 was because year-end orders go out in May/June and then we finally usually end up getting our stuff in late July/early August. I guess the new version came out in the middle of that. The rep said the sales dept could handle the activation code situation.
