  • Most businesses that do not do much video (or much electronic media for that matter) usually view it as a luxury item. Like a motorcycle or boat. Cool to have and show off but not really necessary for the bottom line. That is why they want to see a script and story board. They are wanting you to commit while they sit back and enjoy your boat or motorcycle. Instead, show them the conversion rate for products purchased online with and without video. Talk to them about the cost savings for distribution of electronic media vs print. Make them feel old and out of touch while the “new kids” are using new toys like yours to steal their customers. Frame that conversation before you ever walk into the room. A business needs money to survive, not a cool video. If you cant demonstrate how you are going to save or make them money (with numbers and math) then your going to have a hard time closing.

Small HD 501 if you are HDMI only. Small HD 502 if have the option of SDI. Then add the Small HD Sidefinder for the respective model and you have a complete package that can be used like a traditional eyepiece or as a small monitor with a hood.

In addition to increasing production values there are also new areas that are opening up for video. Things that used to be covered with stills or print are now being covered with video. Look at the proliferation of simple short videos featuring product on most retail websites. Training is a big corporate market that is currently benefiting from increased production values but very mundane things that would have been covered in a technical manual are now being done with video. We recently did a shoot where the sound a machine made determined whether it was operating properly or not. Try putting that in a manual. A video is actually cheaper to produce and distribute. A corporate video producer can be well served to have some examples of what the “other guys” are doing in his or her back pocket when going on a production with a client.

+1 on the lower thirds being obscured by the play bar. Ran into that recently with a bunch of product videos. Also lower third covered by pop up adds on YouTube and other streaming video sites.

With your stated set up you will not be using the full image of either lens. Since you will be shooting through the middle of both pieces of glass your already minimizing any differences. If your script is compelling nobody is going to notice your lensing choices anyway. In the spirit of the previous poster, let experience be your guide.

Check the Sony A7sII. Will do what you need plus has interchangeable lenses. Small and easy to handle. You can take production still with it during the shoot. If you have any buddies that are into old Leica camera’s you may have a source of good glass to boot.

We use Kessler sliders with the motorized attachment. They work well for standard and time lapse. Can also be used manually without motor. Call and see if you can get a demo unit after NAB is over.

Believe it or not you can use a couple of dual mantle Kerosene lanterns and a sheet of shiny foam board insulation from Home Depot for a nice big light source. No electricity needed.

Does the Mic itself have an attenuation switch? It may have been inadvertently changed. That would mean that the mic itself was clipping before the signal got to the camera.
