As my audio instructor used to say, you need to remember that you are recording in a digital format. You don’t need, or want, to record that hot (-6db). When analog clipped, it would degrade gracefully. When digital clips, the audio is severely compromised and sometimes ruined. If post processing brings up noise levels, a good denoiser can remove the noise. I have not had any problem with volume on my H4N, but my standard setup uses a mic preamp which feeds the audio to one of my video cameras and to the H4N.

I always leave the older version of Vegas installed. In this case, I have both 10 and 12 installed. Since I have had very few problems with 12, it has been a while since I used 10. However, I was still using 10 heavily after I installed 12 and I had no problems with it. These days I am working exclusively in 12. BTW, one of the first things I do is to turn off the GPU option. My system is fast enough without it, and I don’t want to deal with the potential for problems.

I have occasionally gotten the did not save message. In fact, sometimes I get a crash message after terminating Vegas. As long as I saved the veg file successfully, I simply ignore these messages.

As noted elsewhere, you still have not said what bit rate was used in Vegas to render the video. If it looks like a VHS, the bit rate was too low. How long is the video? If it is less than 90 minutes, I use a constant bit rate of 8,000,000 bits per second or more. In Vegas Pro, you have to customize the template to set this number. Mine are usually less than an hour, so I use 8.5mbps.

OK, so the problem you are describing is not brightness? It is time for you to be more specific about what you are doing and seeing. What formats are you using to render the video for use by DVDA? What bit rates are you using for the render? What does the rendered video file (and I do NOT mean the AVI file) look like? Is it “crisp and clean”? It would also be helpful if you could describe what you mean by “crisp and clean”.

I thought you said it looks too bright. Now it looks “crappy”? If you want it to look good on a TV (in terms of brightness or color accuracy), you have to preview it on the TV and adjust it until it looks right on the TV. It doesn’t matter how it looks on your monitor if your target is a TV. I don’t know any other way to say the words.

This is a problem of color calibration. First, your computer monitor needs to be calibrated by a hardware device to insure that it is displaying both color and luminance accurately. I use a Spyder 4 these days. Second, TVs may look very different depending on what color/luminance standard they use. I don’t have a calibrated TV monitor, so I go through a process of rendering and burning a short short section of video to see how it looks on a TV. I then adjust color and luminance, with another render/burn to check results, until I am satisfied with what I see on the TV. That process may take several tries before I am satisfied, so I use a RW DVD to keep my costs down.
Please note that this is not a problem that Vegas creates. It happens for all image application software.

If you mean that the computer is not responding when you try to drag the event, then I think the problem is your computer rather than Vegas. It must be doing some swapping to get the resources to perform the function.

January 31, 2013 at 4:26 pm in reply to: problems with moving audio events from Canon 5DDon’t split it. Duplicate the stereo audio channel. Then right click the original, click on channels from the pop up menu, then click left channel. Repeat for the duplicate, but select right channel.
