Unless you have not installed DVD Architect, you should have an AC3 only render option. In my version of SVP 12, it is called Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro. I also have a studio version, but I always use the Pro option. I think DVD Architect is included in the purchase price of SVP, so you should have access to it. Once you install DVDA, you will see the Dolby render option.

I do not have any experience with Tiger, but we have had great luck with Microcenter if there is one near you. They have helped my daughter and I put together two computers with no problems at all, and are a continuing source of parts and advice.

Sure, duplicate the track. On the top track, delete the night Fx you have applied. Then use masks in the Pan/Crop function so that only selected portions of the video screen on the top track will be displayed. The track below will then be seen with the remainder of the darkened screen. You may have to use keyframes with the masks to keep the mask properly positioned.

To avoid this problem, I ALWAYS mark a beginning and ending point for the render. Position the cursor at the begging of the video, and press the “I” key. Position the cursor at the end, and press the “O” key. Be sure the render option “Render loop region only” is checked, and you are good to go.

I guess I have not yet understood your question. Yes, if you select multiple events, they will all move together, and they can all be deleted simultaneously. They are a temporary grouping which will disappear as soon as you select another event. That was my interpretation of your question.

Try clicking on the left most of the events on the track. Then shift click on the right most event. That will select all of the events (or clips) between the two endpoints. Since you tell us that Vegas is selecting both audio and video when the click on a single item, it will also select both video and audio for the multiple events clicked on as I have described. You can do this selection across several adjacent tracks simply by clicking on the top left corner and the bottom right corner. You can also add or drop items to/from the group by control clicking an event. Once selected, you can, for example, drag the whole group at one time. Just remember that you have not made this selection a permanent group, so if you click on any single event to select it, the entire grouping will be gone.

Was the file saved on an external drive that was shut down before the computer was shut down? In that case, you probably did not use the “Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media” function in Windows. Windows sometimes defers writing data to devices, and files can be corrupted or lost if power is removed before all of the data is written to the device. This function is performed for all powered up devices as part of the Windows shut down process. I am always careful to run the “Safely Remove” function before turning off or disconnecting external hard drives, flash drives, etc.

Glad it worked. Since the instructions are to apply this technique at the event level, it is not clear to me how you can do it at the project level. You could select all of the events, and apply it to all of the events at the same time. I have always applied the technique to video that came from a particular camera rather than applying it to all cameras.
I see no reason that you cannot reinstall Avid. As you said, the source file was not corrupted.

It sounds like you are recording your video in an uncompressed format. If so, it is very large. Recording in an mp4 format will compress the file. It will probably compress it a lot more than it is today. Sony Vegas will have a lot less data to brighten or color correct or whatever it is doing, and it will be far faster when rendering the final output file.

I did encounter something very much like this some time ago. The fix was;
On the events this is occurring on, right click and choose switches > reduce interlace flicker. Also change smart resample to force resample on the same menu
which came from Sony support. In my case, the changes successfully eliminated the flicker.
