  • Thanks for the reply Zak.

I hope you’re right. It seems kind of silly to me that an indivudual could not install the software on both systems… as long as only one is used at a time. I can see the potential for cheating on this, but still, why punish your customers?

I went ahead and placed my order for the laptop… without the FCE installed option.

    THanks.

I have a very different experience with oversized stills in FCP (FCS).

I use oversized stills in my programs all the time. I usually resize huge images down to 1500 pixels x whatever x 72dpi(3-5 Mb)… just because that’s almost always plenty big enough to zoom in and pan around. I almost always add the anti-flicker filter to the pix which really help smooth things out. After rendering, it’s as clean as anything I’ve done in After Effects.

Although most of my work is done uncompressed 8-bit, even in DV I have had excellent results with large photos.

Borjis, I would suggest trying this workflow, because it sounds like you’re disappointed with your results, and you don’t have to be. FCS is fantastic.

    Best of luck.

Agreed. That sound about right. I will definitely ask them about how they would handle a more complicated disc.

    Thanks.

I would like to know also. I have NO idea what they do to convert it. All I know is that they offer the service. You send them an NTSC DVD and they convert it to a PAL DVD. I have no clue whatsoever how they do this.

I processed this order while working around the clock on three corporate productions, so I really did not research it at all.

My DVD was a simple auto play DVD, so nothing fancy.

If I have time tomorrow, I’ll give them a call and ask… and let you know.

I’m in Chicago. The duplicator is Master Images in Northbrook, IL (847/205-1111). I have no clue what they use to do the conversion, but it worked for my client.

Seems a lot easier than re-creating/authoring in PAL.

    Good luck!

I just had an NTSC DVD converted to a PAL DVD at a local duplication company. The cost was around $100.

James, you’re entirely right to ask that question. I see that being the underlying problem with a ton of these posings.

But I am monitoring thru firewire to my DSR-25 which connects to a Sony fine pitch monitor thru an S-Video cable. I can also monitor component video thru my ALA IO. Same result either way.

I think what I have to do is just experiment some more. I only had a couple hours to do my initial testing. Perhaps I had my setting wrong?

I am going to rent an HDV deck so I can capture more footage and experiment some more.

    Thanks!

No. Initially, I tested the clip at 100%, which filled my SD timeline with about 1/4 of the image (which is what I wanted). When I rendered, though, the quality was not all that great. So then I tested it at 75%, which still gave me just a portion of the total image in my frame. That too did not look that great. In fact, neither looked as good as the full frame when it was downconverted from the camera to SD during my initial edit.

All great suggestions- thanks – but I don’t think any of these suggestions will accomplish what I want.

Let’s say I have 50 clips in a bin… in poster view. I would love if there was a way that Final Cut would automatically highlight each clip in my bin as I added it to the timeline. That way I could easily see what’s been used and what still rermains.
