just for my journalistic curiousity, are you gathering results from all forums everywhere? or just on the cow?

(there may be people who use avid, m100, premeire etc who do not hang at the cow)

    thax

exactly! its the Michael Sellman LTD Mod. it allows us to read AFM Audio from beta sp tapes (usually camera rolls)

AND we can master with AFM Audio.

Beta SP is a great video format, but the longitudinal audio is a disaster. its not only marginal qulaity, but the dolby NR was never implemented properly, so its always pumping and breathing, especailly across generations. and its not easy to get tapes without dolby, as the recorder punches out a tab on the tape etc etc

Needless to say, its only a matter of time till we are off SP and onto some other flavor. We have been using HDV to aquire form almost 3 months now, and the only time i go to beta is with a 16 x 9 anamorphic program (or letterbox)

I have no idea what we will master to after Beta SP. it all depends on whats cheap and compatible (theres a subject unto itself hahahah)

    ok

so after further stumbling around, it seems like the main and really only problem is getting black on my output instead of video when i try to either insert to tape or assemble to tape and as far as i can tell its from my inpoint being in the middle of a transition. If i move the inpoint so its in between transitions, no problem.

I would call this a bug since i should be able to ETT from ANY point on my timeline

and this is germain to me as i have to base my insert edits on audio rather than video, as we use the AFM audio tracks on our beta sp tapes, and you can hear the edit if its in the middl of a word

does anyone else find this? or am i just a dinosaur printing to beta sp?

lucky i am not mixing sources to-day. its really not even gonna be edited a whole lot (greenscreen clips for a web piece)

but thanx for the heads up!

  • jeremy

thanx! yes it was shot 30p “native” (i just found out about the difference between 30p over 60 and 30p native)

however the timcode on the source footage goes up to 59 frames. waht kind of issues is this gonna cause, anmd how do i deal with those said issues

    Frick

there is a world famous museum named after u!

just to clarify my point, as sometimes its not so clear, Blackmagic has a software codec, or series of codecs, that you can install on a machine that does not have a card installed, like a separate AE machine. These codecs allow you to read and write files in the native format for your BM fcp machine.

    The

can i call you The? or is it thefreak? how about mr freak? 🙂

this may be obvious, but do you have a kona or a blackmagic? if so install the software codecs on the avid, and export in the native file format for fcp

OR do as mentioned above, but make sure you are exporting out of quicktime in a kona or bm native codec, not just apple uncompressed (for more infor go the aja website and look under kona downloads)

    hope this helps

if you have AE on the same box as FCP, you only need to export a Reference QT (not self contained). its really fast

but even a atraight qt export, that matches the setting of your timeline (called export quicktime in your fcp file menu) is pretty fast, expecially for a shot at a time

    hope this helps

“They are first and foremost a PC company and that will not change”

so its bad that htey have a working multiformat, multistandard editor that actually DOES multiple streams of realtime? and its bad that they have no interest in selling computers, just SOTA video cards?

I used a pc edit system, with matrox cards, for a long time and had no qualms with any of it. rock solid 24 7

so lets not make it sound like a “pc” company is a bad thing, ok?

especially when fcp still cant mix 8 bit and 10 bit ntsc on the same timeline (better stop here, or it’l just get ugly)

btw sorry if you had a bad experience w matrox in the past. I think you would find them a different company to-day

with both products you can download a demo. fully functional but puts big ol x across the image.

each app, Instant HD and resizor 2.0, have “levels” of quality. and i think resizer comes with de interlacer as well

but even at medium quality, it is not fast, nor even moderately fast (resizer even sez in the manual that you should really think about wheter or not you need the High Quality settings, as you may be unsatisfied with the render times)

I would suggest downloading the demos and trying em out!

    hope this helps
