I’m still looking for the most portable solution, easiest (most compact) to ship, set up and shoot, with a minimum of wrinkles.

I’d still be interested in opinions about the respective merits of the spring-loaded backgrounds from Westcott, Lastolite, and Photoflex.

eefx.com sells foam-backed cloth and claims that it resists wrinkles, even if you need to fold it in addition to rolling it up. I’m thinking of pairing the foam-backed cloth with a Chimera panel frame (probably the 72×72″).

Any more input, anyone?

Okay Nick and Bob Z, I get your points about this thread, but I couldn’t resist when I saw Dino’s post.

You’ve hit on one of my pet peeves. I agree with you, Dino. (btw, we’re not alone; Garrison Keillor wrote a funny bit on this for one of his Prairie Home Companion shows.)

I really hate it when a waiter/waitress says it. “No problem” implies, “Yes, bringing you this plate COULD have been a problem, but as your waiter I’ll forgive you for this incredible lack of consideration on your part, just this once.”

I think in Spain there’s a similar but better phrase: “de nada,” meaning, “It was nothing; don’t mention it.” I still prefer a pleasant “You’re welcome,” or “My pleasure.”

Steve, while I can’t share your ire about people who say “you’re welcome,” I guess you’re entitled to your pet peeve — just don’t reply, “No problem.”

My main use for Composite Wizard was to smooth the background BEFORE attempting to key it out, with Primatte or another keyer. Are you saying KeyCorrect Pro is only useful after keying?

That would make the DP brilliant; he probably realized immediately that it could take 2-3 days to shoot a 2-minute scene. So he wrapped a studio around each exterior location and made the sunlight irrelevant.

Thanks David. You’re right about the longer clips and that makes sense. Although perhaps another word besides “importing” might have been more helpful: “processing” for instance.

The incessant news of huge corporations in bankruptcy has given license (even to quite prosperous firms) to act as if survival depends on stiffing suppliers. It’s unconscionable, and we should not cooperate with cynical attempts to capitalize on the “fear, uncertainty, and doubt” from the Big Recession.

DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED.

And, be happy. You’re alive. You may even be healthy. And for anyone in media, times have never been more interesting.

As one extremely bright person told me just yesterday, if you show a positive attitude when things are going great (and that’s easy), you shouldn’t act defeatist when things are not so good. The people who act with self-respect and good cheer will sail through this recession, and emerge stronger than ever.

The trick that has worked most often for me is to write a post to the COW. Either (a) the process of describing the problem gives me the inspiration to solve it or (b) someone else with the same problem answers it.

In this case, I think it was the regular process of a computer restart that solved my mouse problem, just as you experienced.

My understanding is that at the 9-hole courses, they arrange them so you play forwards and backwards, 1-9, then 9-1.

But I wouldn’t know. I’ve never gotten past the third hole.

If it weren’t for all those little ponds I wouldn’t have run out of golf balls after the second hole. You’d think with all the money they make they could afford to drain those things.
