I own Flip 4 Mac Studio Pro HD and use it to create .wmv files in FCP.

I also create .wmv files (when I’m in a hurry) by exporting live to a Digital Rapids card in an HP xw8200. Both processes work fine.

But whenever I play a .wmv file from the Finder, up pops a little window “Flip 4 Mac / Importing.”

Why, when I have already installed Flip4Mac, do I need to keep importing it to play a .wmv file?

    Thanks.

[Bob Cole] “”Flip 4 Mac / Importing.” “

Yar, I see that on certain longer clips.
Flip is kind of a miniature application. It sucks in wmv and converts it to be visible in Quicktime. That’s not an instant process. You should see that on longer clips only, shorter clips are imported and processed too quickly for the import window to be triggered.

Thanks David. You’re right about the longer clips and that makes sense. Although perhaps another word besides “importing” might have been more helpful: “processing” for instance.
