The reason I bought Surcode for PP 1.5 was to do 5.1 audio. I found that I could not do that inside Encore. (Was I wrong?)

As a longtime PC user, and someone who was hoping that PP 2 would be a home run, I find your comments both troubling and persuasive. The pricing on FCP Studio Universal had me checking and re-checking. It’s pretty generous, esp. in contrast to the way Adobe is pricing the Studio upgrades for those of us who own most of the pieces, but not the “studio.”

It makes sense in a business way, I guess. Apple sells hardware, Adobe only software. But as far as the end user is concerned, it’s more reason to look at FCP.

I just called Adobe to complain, “I have several of the pieces of Studio, and feel as if I’ll be paying twice if I upgrade to Studio. Are there any further discounts if you own several of the eligible software packages?”

The answer was “No. Not now. Maybe later. You’re the second person who’s asked that so far today.”

If others make this request, maybe they’ll listen? Probably not.

Thanks for the ideas. The only remaining question is how to check the “layer break” without actually burning a DVD-DL. Unless… checking the project on the hard drive simulates that as well?

John, do you use the canvas or the muslin? I understand that the canvas is less prone to wrinkling and developing wear marks, but it has to be transported rolled up, while the muslin can be stuffed into a bag. I was wondering whether the muslin backdrops develop distracting wrinkles, but I’m guessing you throw them out of focus anyway, correct?

When I eBay for DLT IV I see tons of 40/80 tape cartridges on offer. Are you saying that a tape drive that says 20/40 will accept these cartridges?

This came up on an AE list, and Tim’s solution was the one offered, with a twist:

If your AE project uses lots of plug-ins, you’ll hand over the .aep, but of course you’ll be legally unable to hand over the plug-ins. If the client tries to use it without you, he will discover that he still needs you.

Perhaps I’m making too much of this, but I’m seeing all sorts of DLT drives and tapes, 20/40 gb, 35/70 gb, etc. Does that matter, or is any DLT cartridge going to be acceptable to replicators?
