To add to what butterflyman said, if you are going to go internal, don’t put your data and projects on the C: drive, you are asking for more trouble, a minimum setup is one drive(C:) for OS and apps, a second large internal hard drive for video and misc video associated files.

Here’s a caveat about Dell, the basic system is usually somewhat reasonable like a Precision 390 workstation, with a fast processor like a E6400, video card and basic memory and harddrive, from then on their pricing is horrible, usually twice current market pricing, memory is dirt cheap on the open market, same with large harddrives.

The new MacbookPros have 34mm express card slots vice Pcmcia, there are Sata II cards that will add two eSata II channels, Problem is that the Mac Express Card slots are 34mm which reduces the available cards that fit, The 54mm slots that are available for PC laptops have eSata II raid controllers where you can raid0 a pair of drives to get over 140MB/s, its amazing to have a TB or TB and a half of drive space hanging off a laptop. -

Open My Computer and you will see you drives listed, right clik on the drive letter you are using for video(best if its a separate drive from the OS and apps.) select properties, if the drive is listed as fat32 you can convert it to NTFS, first defrag the drive by using the defrag in tools in the properties window, when defraged, when done close the windows, goto Start menu, clik on Run, type Convert X: /FS:NTFS, substitute the drive letter you want to convert for X:, click Run, your disk will be converted to NTFS
