    Matt,

the timecode is saved in the MXF within a dedicated timecode track. No need to extract VANC information.

16 tracks in MXF is no problem and does not break any specs. This is OP1a, not OP-Atom like P2.

You don’t need to convert or re-wrap the MXF clip with our solutions, you can also access/edit streaming/growing files. We only review the forums from time to time, please get in touch with us through the contact form on our website to discuss your issue in detail. https://mxf4mac.com/contact

    Thanks

It will stay AVC-Intra as long as you don’t render anything. Also export to AVC-Intra is currently not possible due to the missing encoding capabilities.

We release v1.6 of our importer this Monday with full support for FCP7 and the new AVC-Intra codecs.

Some recording formats are just not suitable for direct editing, they were optimized purely for the recording situation to deal with the available bandwidth. AVCHD is one of those, converting it is required.

Ok, let me be some more specific. 🙂

When using P2 natively then never use the “Move” feature in the Media Manager as it will move the original P2 MXF files out of the original P2 folder structure.

For the virtual tape feature please contact us directly. 😉

We work on a “virtual tape” option to load the entire card in as one single clip.

There are lots of benefits with the P2 structure “as it is”, some want to include the audio, some to exclude it to work with external audio files. Enabling this on the application level and not within the component provides all options and preserves project compatibility with systems like Avid or Autodesk that also access native MXF P2 content.

We manage a lot of projects where the P2 audio is not required and gets imported from other devices or they mix all together. The issue you mentioned applies to every project with external audio, including P2 (in fact P2 audio behaves like external audio). This can be greatly handled with the right editing style – FCP is very flexible so it allows lots of stuff, some things should be avoided.

For example never use the Mediamanager with native P2 as this destroys the original P2 file and folder structure – same applies with Avid and media consolidate.

    Best

Based on the project file that we got it seems that audio and video of many clips also has been unlinked by the editor.

Maybe your files are corrupt? Can access them with other P2 aware software? Maybe our free MXF analyzer helps.

June 9, 2009 at 4:31 pm in reply to: MXF EXPORT

Thanks for pointing to our site Noah.

The exporter available today exports to the D-10/IMX world standard (SMPTE 386).

We are working right now on the MXF GC Export for FCP with all DV compression types, including DVCPRO HD. A pre-release test is currently ongoing. We will also add DNxHD and Uncompressed Video. The exporter is also prepared for AVC-Intra.

Please note that this is no dedicated P2 exporter, P2 uses OP-Atom with separate video and audio MXF files and within the P2 folder and file structure (spanned clips, etc.).

OP1a GC MXF is a single file with video and audio, similar to MOV and ideal for playout and long-term archive. However it allows re-wrapping, so you can send P2 natively or via Log & Transfer to FCP and wrap it to OP1a MXF.

Once the DV/DVCPRO HD implementation is done we will put this also into our SDK and this will be then passed over to the ToolsOnAir team for the Just:In video capture application to extend the MXF capture feature set.

    Hope this fits you well.

    Thanks

    Hi Andy,

thanks for pointing at our product, let me slightly correct the information you provided please. I am not the developer, I am the product manager and part of the company. We have several developers working on various MXF solutions, as well as a sales and support team.

    Thanks
    Bjoern
