Thanks for the suggestions but trashing the preferences made no difference.
Overlays are definitely on, as I can actually see the faint green image of title safe in the timecode overlay but nowhere outside of the timecode overlay.

Odd.

This is a very good suggestion and fortunately the footage is being digitzed at dv resolution so I’ll give this a try. It also ocurrs to me that my DVD recorder has a dv input as well for doing dubs from a camcorder. I’ll try it as well. Thanks for the ideas.
