Full screen pix from Imac set-up 24/7
Hello,
I’m writing this post while at work on Dec 31, so you know I must be a crazy workaholic.
I’ve been an editor for 25 years now, and have recently started a gig that uses FCP. Now I’ve used a lot of different systems over the years, I can remember lacing up 1 inch tape and using 3/4 inch cassettes before there was the suffix SP and having to remember to hit “cut out” on the old editing blocks in order to not damage the “control track”. So if any of that makes sense to you than you probably know that the saying “old dog… new tricks” can often be accurate.
But over the years I have gone with the flow. When Avid first appeared on the scene in Canada in the early 90’s I took to it like a fish to water, and have been profitably rewarded with a steady income and a list of dedicated clients.
But I digress, back to the FCP question.
Like I stated, I’m a workaholic. And with the relative low cost of the system I went out and bought an Apple Imac, which I’m very happy with and a small portable firewire drive so I can bring the media home with me from work when I rather share a hot dinner with family opposed to yet another stale sandwich left over from the staff meeting at lunchtime (Hey btw where are all those other people whose credits I type up episode after episode anyway? Note to aspiring editors… get use to being alone a lot!)
Here’s the question after all that. I like the system at work because it has 2 computer monitors AND an NTSC monitor, which is essential in my opinion. They use the KONA LHe board in the G5 which does a terrific job.
On my system at home I have the Imac monitor, upon which I have my timeline display and a second computer monitor where I have my bins and toolbench, audio mixer, which is a pretty standard setup I suppose.
But when I want to watch the picture full screen I have to do command f12 for digital cinema preview mode. I find this awkward.
I want to watch the picture on an NTSC monitor full time and leave the other 2 monitors as dedicted to the FCP windows (bins, sequences, toolbench etc.
Because I have purchased an Imac I am assuming I will need an external device such as the product from Matrox (MXO).
In the ads I see for it they never show the coniguration I want.
It only shows the Imac screen, and then a full screen monitor beside it. I want the Imac with an additional computer monitor AND a full screen monitor.
I suppose someday I will want to digitize and will invest in a VTR but right now my media is all digitized at work, so I just need to watch it full screen off the computer, not looped through a VTR.
Can anyone direct me to the correct product?
Thanks,
and Happy New Year
