September 1, 2009 at 5:48 pm in reply to: Best production path for merging live action with animated illustrations? No worries. We own one here (although we are only doing post on this project) and have a pretty decent workflow…well decent for Avid.

September 1, 2009 at 5:00 pm in reply to: Best production path for merging live action with animated illustrations?Hi Dave,
Thanks for the wisdom. We are actually shooting this on RED which is good because we are very familiar with the format here. I will talk with my producer today and make the plea for green screen. Fortunately I will be on the shoot for both days so hopefully I can pull some footage on location and do some tests to make sure I have what I need.
Thanks again.

February 6, 2009 at 2:54 pm in reply to: Animating an animal talking….which program to use?It worked out pretty well. It helped that it was only a couple of words in the song that the cow had to sing. On your budget, I am not sure what else would work. Check out ReFLEX and see if they have a demo that you can play around with. The hardest part will be recreating the inside of the mouth.

I just sent this to BM tech support:
Ok. Here is the thing. I cannot get real time Hi Def RAM previews through HDMI or Component. I tested previewing a 1080i comp in After Effects with Video Preview set to Intensity Pro 1080i 59.94. When I go to preview it is only a quarter speed at the Faster setting. At More Accurate, its only 4 fps.
I bought this card because I believed that you can watch Hi Def RAM previews on a HD monitor. So far, that doesnt seem like it is possible. I can view NTSC fine and can set up NTSC preview for a HD RAM preview, but the image is not very good.
Is this the limitations of the card or am I missing something here??
Thanks,

Luke,
I think you have misunderstood what my problem is. I can get RAM preview through HDMI to my plasma monitor. However, its not in real time. I will try your suggestions though.
Thanks,

December 17, 2007 at 7:03 pm in reply to: Connecting Gen10 sync generator to HD CAM Deck…help neededI just checked with the rental house and they say that the f500 that we are receiving has the optional pull down board installed. So, if I wanted to make my life easier and cut at 1080i 59.94 (so I can downcovert directly from Adrenaline), would the output ultimately still be coming out of HD-SDI? I found the manual for the deck…I uploaded it to my site

Thats a good question. I dont even know based on the client. They just want HD. The DP chose the format that the film was transfered to. I can tell you that its not going back to film. This is strictly for broadcast.
Bob,
I understand your explanation now and will try it out tomorrow. However, if the HDCAM deck does not have the optional board to do the 2:3 pulldown, am I screwed??? Or can I still bring in the footage native 1080 23.98psf and be able to preview the sequence on my HD monitors?
Cheers,

Thanks for the reply and the patience. Like I said, this is all new to me and I am trying to figure it out on my own. I do appreciate the help.
We just upgraded our Avid Media Composer to HD so we are not using Aja hardware for the Avid. We are using the Adrenaline IO.
The footage is all 16mm transfered to HDCAM 1080i 23.98 PsF. The final product is for TV. We will not be going back to film.
So if I am working with 23.98 but want to do the pull down (I believe it has the optional card) then should I be using 23.98 tri level sync or 59.94? My guess is 23.98
Unfortunately I am not in front of the gear right now but plan to get back to work tomorrow to try this out. I have the manual for the deck so I can figure out how to change the individual settings.
If you have any additional info, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Okay…I forgot that I had a copy of BitVice on my one computer. So, long story short, I am able to encode a sweet m2v with the program. Not sure what the problem was using AE but I dont care at this point. I have a deadline I need to meet! Thanks for the help.
