One more thing I was thinking of. The Quicktime is D1 NTSC as oppposed to 720×480. Should I be exporting from Avid a 720×480 QT?

What is your source footage’s field order?

I am assuming lower field although when rendering out a QT ref movie, you do not have that option. I tried Animation codec with a lower field order and got the same results. Everytime i import the QTs though, it does not automatically interpret lower field even if I set it in the Avid (or I ask my editor to do it) I have always checked the preserve edges box.

What are your settings for rendering to m2v?

29.97 drop frame lower field VBR best quality

Do you see the same artifacts/aliasing when you render Lossless?

I havent tried it but its worth a shot

Are you setting the output to render fields in the Output Module, the Render Settings or both?

I believe I tried it in the output module and both the render settings and the output module.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am getting pretty frustrated after trying to solve this problem for a couple of days. Since I am not the editor here, I am unsure if possibly there is something that I am missing when the footage is sent to me. Could it possibly be upper field first?

  • Our Audio Engineer is mixing at CD level (peak at 0). The thing that I find strange is why would that come in hot to Avid? Especially considering Avid and Protools are both from the same company! What would a suggestion be for our Audio Engineer to have the levels mixed to so that the Avid could just import them in without a problem? Or is this just a trial and error thing?

    Thanks,
    Bill

Thanks for the help guys. I downloaded the Re:Fill plug and it worked really well. So I will be coughing up the 100 bills and using that.

    Cheers,

I decided to go with the REflex plug. I tried it out on a still of a cow and got some great results. We just cut the spot and the offline was approved so I will be starting either today or tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks again Chris.

Yeah a CG jaw would be cool. I have about 5-10K to work with so Im not sure if thats a possibility. It doesnt have to look super realistic…it just needs to look good. The only thing Im wondering about (as I have been playing around with some stills and the AE warping tools) is this…I can warp the mouth but it still does not give the illusion of an open mouth. So I am now working with a mask for the actually open mouth. Is there anything else I am missing?

    Thanks

Thanks for the quick response! Ive tried three posts in the AE forum and no help 🙂 I have been researching a bit on the REflex plugin. Im wondering about tongue and teeth and what not. Could I use a combination of warping and masks along with some images I capture of the inside of the cow’s mouth? Once again, thank you for the help. It looks like I will be purchasing a copy of REflex tomorrow 🙂
