complicating this issue is the fact that I shot anamorphic 16:9 footage and am editing into a 4:3 master. In Avid, I just throw down a ‘Pan and Scan’ effect and I’m in business. I’m sure there’s a corollary fix in FCP. Is it in the ‘motion’ tab? set an aspect ratio there? Simple questions… sorry.

Looking forward to that Photoshop functionality as soon as AJA catches up with Adobe. Just loaded Adobe Studio CS4…

October 27, 2008 at 6:28 pm in reply to: Hard Crash after monitoring Various apps from KonaStill trying to get stabilized here. After back-revving to 6.0.0, am still getting crashing after enabling Macintosh Desktop in AJA control panel. Tech support suggests not even running that feature until 6.0.2 is available.
Had to start up in ‘Safe’ mode and uninstall the AJA software to regain functionality of the computer. Backrevving to 5.1.1 NDD to run Kona as of today. A fix is imminent, I’m told.
any different results out there?

October 26, 2008 at 5:53 am in reply to: Hard Crash after monitoring Various apps from KonaKona LHe in slot 2 of 8-core Intel Mac OS 10.5.5 QT 7.5, 6.0.1 Kona software, all the latest, freshest soft/hardware. Storage is a CalDigit 4 Tb array. Ran RAM test today, all reports nominal. I believe the install was executed correctly. While running, all functionality is available. VERY zippy!
Regarding the incident, I waited 20 minutes on the blue screen before shutting power manually. Started up today, worked with the equipment, shut down w/o incident, being careful NOT to turn off the interlaced monitor. I noted with interest that the Kona card surrendered control of the broadcast monitor a full 8-10 seconds AFTER the main monitor went to black.

Marco,
You have my same workflow. I shoot on P2 and am airing out my brand-new Kona 3. I’ve been an Avid editor for 15 years (still am) but slammed a LHe into my new octo-mac. I’ll look forward to hearing about your HD workflow. From the manual, it sounds like it’ll down-rez on the fly, but don’t know about aspect ratios for 4:3, etc. Let us know.

Nobody likes BitVice anymore. I LOVE that little app!

Peter,
Fired off a note off-forum, but my thread seems to be mis-titled. I’m trying to bring back an older BCC ‘Cube’ effect. Does this shed any light on the subject? My client has evidently become quite enamored of the older effect!

thanks so much for responding, Peter! That’s a problem… as I open the Avid effects editor dialog, it’s empty. No icon to save, no parameters. And the effect in the timeline shows the generic ‘I-don’t-know-this’ effect icon.
I’m an official Red ABVB and Meridien customer from back at 2.5, but did not follow the upgrade path to 4.x. And I don’t have access to those dated systems now. It’s been over 2 years since I opened this tired timeline, and I’ve updated to MC/SDI Mojo since then. The BCC bundle is in fairly consistent use, but I’ve not used RED since then.
Perhaps access to an older trial version of RED would do the trick… I’m not an official 4.0x customer, so may not merit your attention on this.
All the best,
Bill
