I use Motion 4 on my older 10.5.8 intel Mac, and it allows me to utilize Avid assets without fuss. In fact, the problematic project was exported from Motion 4 as a test. I’m thinking the Avid uncompressed codec is not being seen by Motion 5.

That being said, I just completed a job where the folks fed me a 1080i HDMI feed at 29.97 that I recorded at 1280x720P at 23.98 to match the speaker’s thin-raster camera. 220i did the conversion on the fly. Captured the audio via XLR to the Pix 220i. Sounded great. The two sources matched resolution and frame rate, greatly simplifying the post work. Sweet.
If audio is important to your productions, get a Sound Devices mixer or recorder, no matter what the video capture system. Built like a tank, with superior audio capability. That’s a given.
And then there’s the price, as was mentioned previously. Both have a production sweet spot that’s amazing.
I’m just amazed at the capacity of the gizmos out there!

Walter got it right, half-way up this thread…

Just produced the SD DVD for our feature “Redemption: For Robbing The Dead” with that tiny one-trick app. Looks fabulous. I did have some questions about Video Purifier settings, and I’ll be danged if the app’s CREATOR Skyped me with the details! I have yet to hear from the coder from Apple.
Just sayin’

absolutely. Here’s a wonky workaround I’m having to use today. I created a bottom layer in Photoshop with only a few pixels of a white rectangle I created showing in the lower right corner, easy to crop in Motion. They all import without fuss now.
Go figure.

Hi Steve:
Thanks for your attention to this! I’m on 8-bit. Changing the Photoshop file to CMYK precludes exporting in the .png format, which is what I’ve been doing successfully for many years. I remember something funky happening a couple times with .png export before, but it’s been too long! I can’t recall how that was resolved. Frustrating!

Kevin’s on to something, I think. Any other general output hints out there? Sam, what are your destination formats/masters?

Thanks for the rapid response, Steve. In desperation I selected “Current Settings” and got the output I needed. Obviously I’m not up to speed on export settings for Motion.
