  • New P2 cards work with older HVX200?

Posted by Rory Macnish on January 20, 2010 at 5:57 pm

I’m looking to buy more P2 cards for my HVX200. I have 3 4gig cards and they work great. I want to buy larger cards, 32gig or 64gig cards. Will they work on my older HVX200? And, What is the process to upgrade the software to the camera to make it work.
    Thanks,
    Rory

Your camera will probably require a firmware update to work with the larger cards. Read the directions carefully, if you do something stupid, you can mess up your camera.

The only thing you need is an older SD card to plug into the camera, with the firmware on it. Again follow the instructions and you should be fine. The bigger cards should all work fine on all cameras with the P2 logo.

Just make sure that your camera never loses power when doing a firmware update, you could regret it. A fully charged battery is safer than AC power because occasionally, the power browns out or blacks out.

I have gone to the site with the firmware, I see they have a pdf, so I’ll read the instructions carefully. I want to get two 64 gig cards. One more question: Will the old cards still work after the upgrade?

Old cards will work fine. I just did the firmware upgrade because I bought 2 new 32 GB cards. Evrything works flawlessly. As previously stated, follow the instructions to a T.

Thanks to all, I just did the upgrade and it went fine. I haven’t got the new cards yet, but can’t wait to start shooting with 2 hours of HD.

Is it possible to accomplish the firmware upgrade on a Mac?

Hey Bill, At the time of my upgrade, I only had Macs so that’s what I used.
