What software should be used to convert .avi files to .flv files to steam video. What I have now does not work correctly.

Thank you Bob. If the software converter company can’t resolve it, it there a conversion software that you are familiar with that will do a very nice job with streaming videos as .flv files?

I’ve tried other converters and the allok seemed to be the best, but I know you are a professional and know the right things to use.

Mike, that was too easy!! Thank you!! I apologize for not realizing that each question and answer that is a different topic should be a new post so it goes into the right search list.

I’m learning about posting questions online and must say that this is an excellent and professional place for information. I appreciate the politeness of everyone who has helped answer my questions.

    Respectfully,

Thank you for the audio information. I’m not sure how you can adjust bringing the level on one track up or down as needed. On final cut pro you are able to click on the audio line anywhere and be able to raise or lower it at that point.

With Vegas Pro 8 I don’t know how to do that. Is there a way to set it up that you can bring the audio level up or down at a specific point by just clicking on the area?

I have to XLR inputs on my camera and when I download the footage with the audio into Vegas Pro 8 and then get ready to edit, I don’t know how to separate the audio channels.

Sometimes I want to use audio from only audio one and sometimes just audio two.

Is there a simple step by step process to be able to control each track individually?

    Thank you,

    Bill

    John,

That’s very good information. It’s a much better way to get to know Vegas’s abilities. All 3 sample clips are nicely done.

Mike, thank you for the explaining the time line for key framing. I have read the online information and other information and it seems very general and not a good starting point for me to understand.

I tried working with the transitions and expanded the window and found the color palette. I was able to change the length of the transition by clicking out of the transition window but the color change did not take effect.

Is there a button to click on that says apply? It doesn’t seem that by just clicking the X to exit would be the way to apply the effect created.

Thank you Mike for the information. There is also a time line at the bottom and don’t know what that’s for. It seems that everything must do things. I thought the time line was a way of setting the length of transition but have no idea how to get it to work.

The nice thing that I have noticed is that once I learn something about Vegas Pro 8, most everything else works the same.

John, I have everything accept the space for typing in the name and those two icons. So I went to read more about it again and how to expand the video track by pulling it down.

I thought if I can expand it by pulling it down then I would try to expand it vertically. Well I did that and there it was. I can now put the name of the clip in it and place the logo right onto the video.

What a terrific and very quick thing to do. Of course I can fade it in and out and also decide how transparent I want it to be.

Very excited to be able to finally do it. I thought you might have given up on trying to help since it seemed I wasn’t getting anywhere with it.

Thank you so much for staying with me on it. I is a very cool and easy feature to use. Now I can try laying over a mask, making the right level of transparency and typing in the name of a person.

I still don’t know what all of those information things are in the box when applying transitions but that will be for the next time. For now I just drag and drop and since it doesn’t have something that says apply I just click on the X and it works. I know it must have more than that such as controlling the transition time, etc..

When I use a flash transition I can’t find different colors to make it so I just go with the white it gives. What we did in analog editing is we would put in 8 frames or so of black or white and then let it render and it would create the look of not a jump cut but let the viewers know that the less relevant parts in an interview where removed. It’s the standard for most news stations.

    Thank you, John.

I checked the track area on the left side and it doesn’t have the track motion in there. I checked the help section trying to figure out how to get it to place it in there but can not find any help with it.

All I have showing is the top left corner is the minimize and maximize buttongs. Going to the right, it has the button with 1 on it. The audio below has number 2 and number 3 in the section below for the next video line then number 4 for the audio level and it continues with numbers going up in order.

The logo is on video track line one. When I put the cursor over the number one tab it shows the name I named it.

Continuing to the right, that is where what you are talking about should be but it’s not. What is there is the track fx then automation settings then mute and the last one is solo.

Below these icons it starts on the left with the slide control to control the level between 0 to 100 percent. Then continually to the right is the compositing mode then is the arrow pointing up for making compositing parent and the last icon is the arrow pointing down that says make composite child.

It is very difficult without the use of graphics with description but I will try different things. If you have anything else that could help please let me know.

    Thank you,

    Bill
