    Hi guys!

Sorry for the delay – I was on vacation! Sweet while it lasted…

The latest is that we think this is a multi-channel audio issue. We’ve finally slogged our way through the dailies job, and at the same time we are having good success with the system on coloring work – the drive is fast enough to cache DPX’s (1080p23.98) and so it is very useful.

Neil, I will keep your advice re: drive I/O in mind, but it really doesn’t look like we are near any measurable limits on that – CPU is at 300%, drive speed is 350 and we are pulling ~20 mb/s.

Thanks again to all of you who helped me out on this. I will keep this thread updated to help those in the future!

And any advice on the multi-channel audio issue would be welcome!

    Regards

    Bill

    Hi guys –

Just a follow up. It seems like this might be a multi-track audio problem. Other projects are going smoothly – just the dailies project with WAV files sync’d are slow.

Looking into switching the nVidia cards, but we bought it from our normal vendor in Burbank and so we don’t have the regular 30 day return policy you would get from a nameless giant vendor…

    Thanks again!

    Hi Mike and Paul!

    thanks for responding.

Mike, we are using two video cards- the standard ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB GDDR5 as the GUI and the Quadro 4000 for GPU. Do these cards get along?

I like the idea of getting the GTX 680, but since it’s a double slot, I might have to get an expansion chassis. Would an inexpensive one work? I saw some in the $500 range and that makes me feel like they are too good to be true 🙂

Otherwise, I will swap out the double slot ATI for a single slot GUI card and use a single slot in PCIe slot 2.

Anybody in the LA area want to earn some consulting money? 🙂

    Thanks!!!

    Hi Tanel!

I’m actually looking to invest what the Nucoda Fuse would cost, around the $100k mark. So, the DaVinci I would get would be the Linux version.

It will be interested to see how the Resolve finally lands, but I’m not interested in being part of the initial roll out. The main thing we’re interested in is a bomb proof, realtime system – and you just can’t get that with an unproven system, or for less than high 5 figures imho.

    Hey, guys-

Just wanted to chime in. I’m also considering a coloring system, and am having trouble making a decision. Maybe you guys have thoughts?

    – While DaVinci seems to be the sexiest “new” system, I literally can’t get a sales rep on the phone here in LA. Very frustrating – I think their focus on the $1000 product is undermining people looking to invest more.

    – Baselight seems to be the best alternative, with a big team here in California. For the broadcast clients we have, I think it will be a winner. Also, I’m interested in the Truelight solution for our indie film clients (to load up different libraries to simulate screening rooms, etc). Anybody have experience with that?

    – I’d love to step up to a Pablo, but I don’t think our client list will support the expense.

    – I’ve been ignoring Nucoda… I guess there’s another system I need to demo. Oy! It takes time!

    Thanks guys

April 23, 2010 at 10:14 pm in reply to: failed in open of the ves file?

Hey, guys – This is an old post but it came up for me on a google search, so I wanted to answer it.

Here’s a fix, from another forum:

I have a new workaround which did get me past this particular problem so it will be interesting to know if it helps
anyone else that encounters this error.

I loaded the project as normal, tried to build it as normal and hit the same error – just checking that nothing miraculous had happened overnight.

I then went into the AuthorScriptHDMVSessions folder (which is inside the folder named after the project) and deleted ALL of the files contained in there. I then got Encore to build the project again … and it worked!

It seems that deleting those files causes Encore to re-import/re-analyse all of the assets and this corrects whatever is causing the problem.

Memo to Adobe: PLEASE improve the error messages in Encore! They stink at the moment – they are almost totally useless in suggesting what the end-user can do to correct the problem.
