I still can’t help but by into the “it was designed for a touch interface” conspiracy theory. If that is the case screen real estate concerns make sense. You just don’t have much working room on an iPad and I imagine they are looking to make a seamless port.
This in no way makes it a good idea.

Really great but wasn’t Mr. Jobs a Buddhist? That makes the ending a bit inappropriate.

That looks awesome. If it could import the xml from my old FCP projects I’d probably give it a try.
I wonder if it has any support for broadcast monitoring solutions.

I would first try cleaning the heads of my deck. Although it sounds like the tape might be loosing contact with the head. Your deck may need taken in for servicing.
How old are the tapes you are capturing? Could they be worn out?

Since you are delivering on DV I would edit at the lower of the two resolutions, DV PAL. You can’t avoid some quality loss going from HD to SD. You may want to transcode your h.264 to an SD Apple Pro Ress format before you even start editing. Of course you are going to have some aspect ratio issues no matter what you do. Hopefully whoever shot the HD footage kept it 4×3 safe.

As some have mentioned on this forum it’s a new xml. As of now there is still no direct way to go from FCP 7 to FCP X. Although many are thought to be working on a translator for the languages.

You can set whatever frame size you want for a wmv using compressor. When you click on your wmv preset(which is a quciktime export component that you set to windows media) it’s under the second menu “encoder”. You can then go to options and set your frame size. You just can’t set the pixel aspect ratio for a custom frame size.
One little glitch I’ve noticed using this though. If you change any parameter and save the stetting you need to go back in an reset your frame size and save again.

September 28, 2011 at 12:25 pm in reply to: Sony Z5U Camera to FCP… What setting should FCP be set to if recording in HDV?I’m not sure what memory cards your camera uses. I’ve had no problems with the cards I use. I’ve never heard of anyone leaving tape wanting to go back.
Your camera will not be shooting uncompressed HD. It will be shooting HDV. Most video formats are compressed. My guess is if you are just starting out you won’t work with uncompressed HD.
The only thing I could think you mean is that they are talking about a graphics card. If you are using FCP 6 or 7 that won’t help you with uncompressed HD. Really what limits your computer working with uncompressed HD footage is how fast you can read and write to your hard drive.
A fast graphics card and editing software that can make use of it will help with editing some compressed footage natively.

What format is the video you are creating the multiclip from? Is your drive a raid array or just a drive with an e sata connection? How many cameras in your multi clip?
Without any of that information I’d say trash your preferences. It’s the old fix for what ails you.

I guess I didn’t read the original post properly. What you want to do then is export a video with non square pixels. Compressor is calling the aspect ratio you want to use .75 but I’ve also seen it as 1.3333.
It seems like unchecking preserve aspect ratio would work. What is your origanl footage? 1080 i HDV should be 1440 x 1080. That is the proper pixel aspect ratio.
It may play back in 4×3 during play back on your mac but test it out on the monitor. You will need software that understands non square pixels.
Sounds like you are on the right path.
