The intermediate step to miniDV and then on to BetaSP would cause a big quality hit.

Also, how are you downconverting your HD timeline? Best practice would be to finish in HD and let a Kona card handle the downconvert to BetaSP.

[Dave LaRonde] “This requires animated masks, motion tracking… the works. “

    Absolutely doesn’t.

    1. Shoot the subject ensuring that he is as still as possible.

    2. Composite the eyes, mouth, and a still of the thumb, as above. Four layers.

    3. Nest those four layers, then animate the whole body as needed.

It’s not elegant, but neither is the effect.

    AAAH! MY EYES!!!

That’s a pretty simple effect – use the 4-point garbage matte to mask around the mouth, use two more layers for each eye.

Place on top of a still photo of a thumb.

    Eww.

  • It’s a sequence setting. Then export your sequence with current settings.

This makes me a bit sad. Someone is obviously wasting a lot of time and money on this, and its just going to end in disaster.

I was hoping for one “so bad its funny moment”. The closest I got was the music loop.

    Sigh.

Sometimes making the audio offline and then reconnecting helps.

Read up on the “Media Manager” within FCP.

Use the “Copy” function to migrate your projects to the external drive.

Be careful – some media manager functions can have a destructive effect on your footage.

But, used properly, media manager will do the job efficiently.
