I agree it’s a lovely look.
I wonder what the chemistry of the “haze juice” might have been. Maybe somebody discovered it was made of asbestos or some petroleum distillate that subsequently went on the EPA “banned substances” list?
When I worked in nightclubs in my youth, we used to use “bubble machines” which I thought were totally cool – until I realized that I was the guy who had to scrape off tons of “dried bubble goo” regularly during maintenance. Needless to say we used them a lot less when we learned this reality.
Still. Haze+light is loverly!

Yes, it sure would have been nice to have been able to open my FCP-7 files in X. But I trust that if the Apple folks building it could have seen an efficient way to do that, they would have devoted the time to coding that in. Nothing else makes any business sense at all.
That they didn’t indicates (to me at least) that they couldn’t and keep their larger goals of speed and agility intact.
Too bad. It would have been much nicer that way.

Clearly I annoy you deeply.
I regret that. It’s never my intent.
But as much as you rail against my perspective on things, you would do well to examine why it makes you so emotional. If what I was saying was merely dismissible dreck, it shouldn’t annoy you so much, should it?
It’s just one guys opinions after all. If you’re correct and I’m wrong it won’t make a bit of difference to your life and career.
However, if I’m even partially correct, it may indicate that theres another viable not so exclusively “only working TOP pros like me have ALL the answers ALL the time” view that could be informative for those who want to carve out a career that doesn’t necessarily involve clawing their way to the top of the shrinking pyramid of “massive project” based editorial work.
As I often say. We’ll see.

It’s not “pretty true” Scott, it’s TOTALLY true.
FCP original was a totally “ground up” revolution.
In versions 1 and 2 it was sneered at and dismissed as “amateur” every bit as much as X is today.
And in the end — after it had enough time to evolve and mature — the majority of the “broad spectrum” video editing in the entire world was being done on it.
Their remained many specialist tools for work at the high end of the spectrum who’s workflows were never much dented by FCP – which is why Avid is still such a major player today. But the broad editing market chose FCP over the competition even tho there was a stiff penalty imposed since it ONLY ran on Mac hardware, unlike the competition.
History sometimes does inform us about the future. But not always. ; )

Sorry, but I’m not going to do that analysis work for you. It’s up to you to decide. (I have my own ideas, but I’m keeping them to myself right now.)
I will note that where 30 Rock has to attract literally millions of eyeballs to make their production process work there are emerging new models for workable success that don’t necessarily rely on big productions and massive audiences.
In the new connected micro-economic world where distribution costs are marginalized via this search driven world of easy access content pipes directly to individuals devices, how many eyeballs do you REALLY have to attract to make something you put on the net a sustainable economic model to drive modest but decent personal success?
Only time will tell.

To the extent you are talking about the core editing functions of the software, I largely agree. While much of the initial angst about X focused on elements such as magnetism, , it’s clear now that these were pretty easy to adapt to with a little hands-on experience.
The real complications are in learning how to maximize the use of the brand new meta-data tools. Knowing the nature, best uses, and strategies for smart collections, event libraries. What the project library allows and doesn’t allow, is actually more complex than simply learning how to assemble a basic cut in X.
That’s part of where the initial confusion came from I think. So many new trees to focus on that we literally couldn’t grasp the boundaries of the new forest very well..

Once you adopt the “dick image” strategy you’ll never go back.
On location, it’s the FIRST step I take. As each CF card is filled, is imaged then those images are backed up to two location drives.
When you go to Log and Transfer, double clicking on the Disk Image looks exactly to X as if you had loaded the original card.
Even better, if you have a bunch of card images on an external drive representing the source footage for a complex edit, FCP X will “see” those files when you launch (double click open) the image files directly from an attached drive and essentially “auto re-connect” them to your project library and any open current X timeline.

Many years ago, when LUX first started being bandied about as a measurement of light output, it was primarily a marketing term that meant different things in different contexts.
(kinda like “watts” in audio – where a “1000 watt audio system” could mean anything from 1000 watts of “instantaneous peak power” to the more engineering reliable 1000 watts RMS ( measured as root mean square over the full audio spectrum).
LUX in the early days was similarly “fuzzy” as a useful measurement because it allowed for way too much Fudge Factor – even when used by honest manufacturers who had fine products but were forced to try and pick among varying “standards, for publication.
Both companies you mention publish “photo metric” data for their products – which show brightness measured in standard lumens over distance at various color temperatures?
Thatt data is a MUCH better picture of what a light fixture produces.

Which IS a difference between how things used to work verses how they will in the future.
30 rock will be A choice among millions – with all the support and network quality that their budget allows.
But the access parameters of that choice will be very different.
At one level, suddenly 30 Rock and “keyboard cat” have precisely the same level of public accessibility via search. That’s NEVER been possible before in human history.
Some of us see a faint whiff of possibility here.
Apple sees enough to have restructured their flagship editing software to potentially take advantage of a search dominated landscape – where not only increased choice, but the need to help people sift and sort among a sea of choices will increasingly be the smart play.
That’s not ALL of what X represents, but to deny it’s central to the new programs design is to miss one of its major advances..
