One other thing to be wary of is that FCP-X “looks for” a graphic environment where Open CL is available.
That’s typically a relatively modern graphics card.
If either your desktop or laptop don’t meet that standard, the X download will toss up an “incompatible” notice and stop things.
Since you’ve been clearly comfortable on older, stable systems rather than someone who pursues a “constant update” strategy, I’d check that the machines you’re interested in operating on will accommodate X.
As to the learning curve, in my experience it depends on how you “take to” change. The people I’ve seen who have the biggest problem migrating to X are those who can’t readily “unlearn” habits from FCP Legacy to adopt the new processes in X. You have to be willing to jettison the way you once looked at things – in order to fully embrace the way things work in X. If you can do that, you can start to learn and enjoy X’s new approach to editing.

Could it be a simple reference issue between the older ID info in Motion and the newly updated ID info for your upgraded X?”
Did you try a simple “close everything and reopen them to refresh the finder links between them?”

I’m not sure but a quick search shows that everything I can see under this supposed “update” number – leads to offshore “fake software” sites.
So go slowly.

Well,
None of the “official” Apple pages I can find show any indication of this at all.
And as we know, Apple does these updates via the APP store, not published public links.
Plus every link I see on a google search under 10.0.2 leads to Warez or software crack sites overseas.
Bit suspicious, methinks.

Particularly evil if you have a camera button battery go bad and find it’s internal clock tagged a clip as having been created in 1969!
(I have a project with a clip exactly like that right now – and it’s annoying as hell!)
This is clearly something that needs to be revisited.

My contention, Walter is that since metadata is actually nothing more or less than TEXT with positional data in the form of OTHER text elements (Tabs, CR’s et al) in a simple serial stream, it just stands to reason that the data will be accessible in the long run.
Even if someone has to write a small script or program to extract it.
After all, what would be the point of making it INACCESSIBLE?
It’s not like the average FCP-X meta-data user is going to fill up his or her TAG database with credit card numbers! I just don’t see Apple trying to hide TAG data text behind block cyphers or the like.
Makes no sense.

Not in any way doubting the results here, but I am wondering about the specs of the systems employed for these tests.
The first post notes an “older” CPU, but a fast graphics card.
I wonder what effect RAM availability has on the CPUs ability to render efficiently?
