January 13, 2014 at 8:29 pm in reply to: Mixing XDCAM and AVCHD footage in Adobe Premier Pro cs6Thanks Jeff, for your reply.
Yes, both were filmed at 1080p24.
I was just worried about the conversion of the AVCHD footage to the XDCAM codecs but I guess that it will be fine.

December 19, 2013 at 11:58 pm in reply to: QT files, Audio with No Vid. and Green in FCP7Hi,
I am facing the exact same problem as in the original post on this thread.
After doing a fresh OS install on my iMac (2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 3GB RAM, Mac OSX 10.6.8) and installing FCP 7.0.3, I can’t seem to get my xdcam clips to work. (They are working on my MacBook Pro laptops with similar configurations).
I see the green screen in FCP as mentioned earlier in this thread.
I tried to follow your instructions but I don’t have a Quicktime folder in Library (Library/Quicktime)
(Yes I do have the Quicktime program installed)
My version of XDCAM Transfer is 2.13.0 and I have also installed the Log and Transfer plug-in.Please — any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I really need to get the computer up and running to start editing and can’t seem to figure out what to you.
Thanks a lot,

January 16, 2013 at 2:53 pm in reply to: Interlacing problems while exporting my projectThanks! I work professionally with XDCAM and used this to make my documentary. Hence the unfamiliarity with HDV.
For now, the distribution will be web based so I will have to use the de-interlace filter. Thanks once again.

April 11, 2012 at 5:12 pm in reply to: FCP Compressor losing quality in low light shootingThanks a lot! I am actually much happier with Adobe Media Encoder and thanks for your recommendation. It is much faster and the quality seems to be better.

April 8, 2012 at 1:08 pm in reply to: FCP Compressor losing quality in low light shootingHi Neil,
I am not rescaling – the resulting H.264 is 1920×1080.
The original footage is grainy because I used an 18db gain but the final H.264 is just not acceptable as
1. It does not look like HD
2. It is distorting the image
3. The image does not look well defined. As I mentioned in my post, I have tried all the combinations of settings in Frame Controls and Video Processing and I don’t see any improvement. Which is why I was wondering about the efficacy of FCP Compressor and about other compression software out there.
Thanks for your reply,

February 4, 2012 at 2:24 pm in reply to: Drop in quality after using Final Cut ColorRender Settings in Color: Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ)
Formal Width: 1920 Height: 1080
FCP Version 6.0.6
Version of Color: 1.0.4 (I was using the Final Cut Suite 2 HD and was mistaken in the versions in my original post). We also tried Uncompressed 10 bit and 8 bit.
RENDER SETTINGS IN FCP:
Compressor: XDCAM 1080 30p (35MBps VBR)
Video Processing: Render in 8-bit YUVLate last night we tried a different method. We copied the sequence from the XDCAM timeline to an Apple Pro Res 422 HQ timeline in FINAL CUT PRO. Then we rendered and sent this sequence to COLOR, did some color correction and sent it back to FCP.
This indirect method made a HUGE difference in quality. But my question is: Why do we have to convert the XDCAM footage in FCP FIRST BEFORE sending it to Color? Should not COLOR handle the codec conversion/compression?

February 4, 2012 at 2:19 pm in reply to: Drop in quality after using Final Cut ColorThanks a lot for your reply!
The image after being color corrected using Color looked less sharp. The difference is very subtle but unacceptable.
We are using an external monitor and when we zoom into the image at 200% to take a look at the fine details, there is a big difference between the pre-color corrected version and the post color version.Render Settings in Color: Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ)
1920 x 1080
FCP Version 6.0.6
Version of Color: 1.0.4 (I was using the Final Cut Suite 2 HD and was mistaken in the versions in my original post).http://www.oniricaproductions.com

Thanks for your prompt reply! If that does not work, reinstall is my only option, right?

December 8, 2011 at 8:45 pm in reply to: Trying to master 1920×1080 sequence to SD DVD using a SONY Tape Deck as an intermediaryI have been told by several professionals from studio houses in Boston that they don’t use COMPRESSER (the program that comes with the Final Cut Suite).
They use hardware/software options that are very expensive. Anyways, thanks for your input — another editor on another forum has a solution.http://www.oniricaproductions.com

The downgrade happens when I use COMPRESSOR!http://www.oniricaproductions.com
