Have had no luck getting HDV video from my Sony FX1 into M100SW. When I capture the clips via FCP 5 in native HDV, M100SW gets an error when I try to import the clips, probably because they are still in MPEG2 format. Presumably M100 will have a workflow for this when the software is released, but that sort of negates being able to try it out first.

Unfortunately, if she’s still working only with her G4/733, the sw trial version isn’t going to do her much good. It’s definitely optimized for G5; I can’t even get the old 640×480 M100 tutorial footage to playback smoothly on my G4/1.25 with 1.25GB ram.
Jenny if you haven’t already, you might want to think about getting the G5 first, before making your software decision.

Sounds like it may be time to repair disk permissions.
If you haven’t done this before, here’s how:
Quit any running applications and run Apple’s Disk Utility, which you will find in /Applications/Utilities.
Select your hard drive in the left pane and if it’s not already selected, click First Aid at the top of the right pane.
Now click the Repair Disk Permissions button and let it run. Messages will scroll by in the window that let you know what it is repairing. When it’s done, you can quit Disk Utility and try using your clip again.

Isn’t some form of data storage on Blu-Ray a possibility here?
Afterall, Panasonic has signed on to the Blu-Ray party and with data storage of 25 to 50 gigs possible relatively soon, this could be another alternative for low cost storage of P2 data, if not for playback.
With some of the rumors going around that Apple might introduce Blu-Ray drive equipped G5s at NAB, it’s certainly conceivable that Panasonic might be working on this, even if they’re not quite ready to announce it.
