  • Quicktime files play fine if viewed through QuickTime Player…

  • Ah the plot thickens…

Just looked at it through a PD150 and the video isn’t even moving, just a frozen frame on the camera (while it plays very jerkily in the canvas window).

  • Also –

Endless “Preparing Video For Display” dialogues and now it’s playing back dropping frames…

    Argggggh.

You just can’t use Windows XP 64-bit version yet.

Also – you’ll need to watch which version of Avid you have (assuming Avid Xpress Pro here) – several versions have a codec issue with AMD processors which means that footage after it has had an effect applied to it will exhibit green lines all over the frame.

There is a work around in using an older codec pack (making HDV compatibility zero).

Hoever, the latest version of Xpress Pro (5.5.1) may have solved the AMD/green line issue. I’d check on the Avid forums. As well as the spec. You may well need a better/different graphics card as everything is now driven by Open GL.

  • Or a slightly different route –

Why not zip or RAR the file up into a set of files? WinRAR (maybe Winzip too) will allow you, via “split to volumes” to divide up one file into many – say each of 650Mb.

So that will give you around 20 files.

Then burn the files to 3 DVD Data disks. If you want/can create chunks that are bigger than 2Gb remember to create a UDF formatted disk, NOT an ISO.

Then copy the files over to your Mac from the DVDs and unzip / unrar the first file which will reconnect all the others in the series and voila you’ll have your 13Gb of footage ready to use on your Mac.

    Something’s wrong somewhere.

I’d try a 3D PIP effect on the layer above, rezise to 100% and then crop accordingly.

Then I’d go into colour correction and look at that layer and see if the black bars are indeed hitting the black level’s zero (or 16 in the RGB level). That’s making sure you’ve got a Luminance (y waveform) scope up.

Assuming that’s true I’d dump out a small portion to tape and then digitise it back in.

If the re-digitised bars are still hitting the zero then your seq is fine and your deck/camera is fine. If it’s NOT, then somethings’ screwy on output or recording.

Use 3D PIP on the clips instead of Resize. It’s better quality.

  • Kevin –

Thanks for the bad news. But I’ll look into the Natress plugin. And of course AE…

    Yawn.

  • Anyone else know if viewing fields in FCP is possible?

  • Yes, that helps. Thanks.

Meanwhile, I’d still like to know if I can view individual fields in FCP. Do you know if there’s a function key or keyboard combination to hold down while stepping through one frame at a time?
