I’m also running media100 version 8.2.3 on this computer and it’s connected to two striped raids. Could it have something to do with media from both edit systems being used on the same raid arrays?
I left this out earlier because I didn’t want to compound the issue, but 5.1.4 was actually working for about 15 minutes and we were importing some p2 and then it just closed, didn’t give any errors and wouldn’t open again. I guess I pissed it off.
thanksk for your help -
It’s the original Radeon 9000 Pro with 64mb of ram. It is AGP.

I did have a shake trial version on the computer, but I trashed everything seemingly related, rebooted, reinstalled everything and still no success.
I’ll check the battery, but don’t think that’s it because everything else is working fine.
Any other input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Like I said FCP 4.5 works perfectly, but 5.1 won’t even open. -
I tried both methods. I upgraded from 4.5 to 5.1, that didn’t work. Then 5.1 to 5.1.4 and that didn’t work.
Then I uninstalled everything and just installed 5.1, that didn’t work. Then upgraded to 5.1.4 and that didn’t work either.
It goes through the motions like it is opening and then it just goes back to the finder and poof, no FCP. -
I’ve tried reinstalling 4.5 and upgrading again and I’ve tried just installing the 5.1 crossgrade. I’m running 10.4.9

November 22, 2006 at 4:08 am in reply to: kona 3 vs. blackmagic decklink and 1080 vs. 720 qualityGood to know about the kona 3 card. My final output most of the time is for presentation on video projectors up to 300″ screens. I think I’ll definitely shoot 720 24pn. I’ll save $$ on harddrive space, so I can budget the Kona card.
I work for a rural electric cooperative and they are going to budget a complete HD studio upgrade including a couple hvx200’s.Anyone have some clues on the release of 16gb cards?
thanks again,
Ben

November 21, 2006 at 7:43 pm in reply to: kona 3 vs. blackmagic decklink and 1080 vs. 720 qualityMost of the video I am going to shoot will be used for multiple projects over a period of at least several years, so I need to pick a format and stick with it. Does anyone anticipate any problems with shooting 720 24p while editing with the kona 3 or decklink HD as neither say they are 720 24p compatible.
This seems to be my best option for a compromise between space and quality.
Thanks for all your input. I am taking my company into the HD world, but with no real world experience. Can anyone recommend some good reading on HD workflow for the Mac and FCP?

Buy a used powerbook g4 off ebay.. $900 for a 15″ 1.67ghz w/superdrive and with proper card slot vs. buying a cheap pc for $700 or the panasonic p2 card slot for $2000.
Just my 2 cents though. Someone may have better suggestions. -

October 11, 2006 at 4:33 pm in reply to: transition from dvcpro tape to hvx200 HD in productionsThanks for your help. It looks like my best option is going to be letterboxing my 4×3 dvcpro footage to mix with the downconverted HD and hopefully within a year I can replace it all with HD.
I am going to be shooting 720 24p with the hxv200 as all future content will be the same, so I guess I will have to deal with the interlaced vs. progressive issue unless you know of some software that can make interlaced video immulate the look of progressive, not necessarily 24p. I work for a very conservative cooperative. They do not like change, but I love what this camera can do.Ben
