i would capture everything at 48k…unbless there are issues as you capture, if everything is fine, then all is well.

you also need to listen to your crew…..and then not listen to your crew. it’s your film, make it. but always be open to suggestions, and make the call. also watch your crew. if your not paying them good rates, feed them well, and give them good breaks. always feed lighting first.
my first films, which were made for cost, just gear rentals really, all volunteer crew of about 12-15 people, my food budget was around 100 bucks a day. you don’t have to go gourmet, but get a friend who can cook and put them in charge. pasta is easy, chicken is easy, rice is easy. warm meals when you are working and not getting paid is great, and makes you invigorated over the project.

basically, if you know you will never transfer to film, shoot regular 24p.
make a good story, and make the visuals make sense. watch the movie traffic…or even lord of the rings….lord of the rings is probably the most expensive indy movie, and when you look at the budgets for those movies….you’ll see why.

a really nice, high rez quicktime file for his laptop can also save your arse…..at the school at, we usually make a high rez qt version, pal, and ntsc dvds….

well, as it goes, magic happened.
I deleted everything on my computer realplayer, quicktime, and sorenson squeeze related, including the realmediaexport.
I reinstalled quicktime. i reinstalled sorenson 4.3.3. and magically, my test realplayer renders are in sync.
must have been something corrupt somewhere, becuase before, the RP renders from squeeze wouldnt even show up as file, it’d be missing. no file anywhere.
fact of the matter is that realplayer sucks. i think we should start a petition to outlaw it on the cow!

i work for a major university.
i have been saying for 2 years, that realplayer is the worst possible format. except for some reason they stick with this crappy anystream software…its backwards, but its the way it is. supposedly at the begining of this semester, everythign was supposed to be quicktime, but they had problems and revereted back to quicktime.
dumb. but its not my call. heck, they aren’t even using tapes anymore because its too expensive, thats right, no tape backups, just shooting direct to firestores. gee, i cant wait till a canon xl1 shuts off because it goes into sleep mode. ahhhh, this is my nightmare, people who make decisions that don’t know.
but yea, there isnt really a way to convert a realplayer file to quicktime..unless u shoot it off a screen, what is this, 1950?

thanks for the great advice!
i hope that throwing my timeline out of sync, will resync, lol. i would have never thought of that.

thanks for the great advice, i will try this in a bit.
this is an entire university wide thing, any file shot quicktime with the firestore, renders to realplayer out of sync, everything else, wmv, qt, h264m sorenson 3 is perfectly fine…
weird.
