Nice to see the basic graphics card upgraded to the one in the – ummm – iMac. Perhaps that XT bit on the end means it’s really really fast compared to the exact same XT-less model in the iMac.
If I try to add the Nvidia card to the spec in the configurator I get a 3-5 week wait.
Back to the drawing board…

And by the by, I did say that rumour sites were often wrong in my first post. interestingly, a lot of new Apple products (consumer stuff mostly) has been predicted in general by rumour sites of late – if you filter your rss feeds enough and avoid the less reputable ones. All the processor specs were accurately called months ago (when Intel announced the chips Apple have finally deigned to fit in their systems).
In lieu of anything else, I’ll take my future product ‘news’ where I can get it, and with the pinch salt anyone would give it.

Interestingly, A FCP user group has a meet the day after the keynote. They announced they would have a secret new feature to show off, and Tech Crunch (a fairly reputable tech site) said they had ‘confirmed’ the new feature revealed would be native Redcode support in FCP.
If true, I suppose this means we are looking at a FCP upgrade next week.
Incidentally, having run FCP and Leopard very successfully on my laptop, I have no real qualms now about a Mac Pro that will probably have to run Leopard. Onwards! Maybe the FCP upgrade will include multicore support in FCP (yeah, right).

PS – love the fact that the UK site still has the old specs and no mention of the bump. You would think Apple could update them all at once – they are in the computer business, aren’t they?

Yes, funny, that was the one thing the rumour sites was a definite for the new systems. Right as usual! Of course, the store is still down, but you’d think they’d mention it on the new spec pages.

Just noticed Apple has posted performance comparisons with the old octo-core, showing 10-20% speed increases on FCP renders. Woo. Still, better standard gfx card, and faster PCI bus. A nice gradual bump.

I would have thought you could achive this with the features in Automator in Leopard (if you are running it yet). It has a GUI record feature that pretty much allows you to automate anything.

You have captured anamorphic video and you are placing it in a 4×3 timeline. FCP is automatically letterboxing it in an attempt to make it fit.
Go to sequence settings and tick the anamorphic box BEFORE you put any footage in it.
I notice you have a lot of questions and you’re quite new to FCP. Welcome to the fun! You may find a friendlier answer to questions on the Creative Calf forum, and always remember that the manual for FCP is a lot better than most.

For what it’s worth, we had ours about a month ago in the UK. AJA are shipping them. I suggest you find another reseller with stock. If your reseller has told you they are not shipping yet they are either ill-informed or lying.
