Not in my experience, I get great colors with it.

I’d highly recommend the Apple Pro Training Series book “Compressor Quick-Start Referecne”. There’s now one out for QTPro that’s really nice. I think you can find either on-line for 20-something bucks each.

But my experience with H.264 has been really good, and I don’t see any color problems. It could all depend on your settings.

    1- H.264

2- Don’t bother watching your CPU usage, there’s nothing it’ll tell you technically about the working condition of your computer (most people with no formal IT training and experience misinterpret what’s going on with CPUs), and nothing you can do to change it. For many operations, using only one CPU is faster than multiple CPUs. Both CPUs will get used with FCS2 more often.

What exactly do you mean “consolidate a Sequence”? What is your goal?

May 10, 2007 at 10:59 pm in reply to: which video monitor is right for me

I just did a proposal for a large expantion of a local very large institution. They’ve been using a Sony PVM 20M4U with the SDI card. We originally were going to go with the same monitor again, cause its pretty nice.

But they are moving into HD, and decided now was 17″ the time to get an HD monitor. So now they’re going with the Marshall V-R171P-AFHD SD/HD Production Monitor, with the VPLCD171HST01 VESA Mount Stand. It’ll run off of their Blackmagic Design Multibridge Pro. Looks like a really nice SD/HD monitor.

There are two teleconvertes for the HVX200, both from Schnieder Optics. I have used the 1.6x, I own the 2.0x. Problem is, they’re not cheap, and you only have the second half of the zoom range to work with, due to vignetting from the lens.

Also, could it be your recorded in a progessive mode (24p) and didn’t compensate for the speed of the car moving across the frame? 24p doens’t do movement like 30i does. Just guessing.

Right click in a blank space in the Browser, select Icon View, either large medium or small. You can set the Poster Frame as you want. You can set In/Out points manually in the Browser by typing them into the respective fields to the right of each clip.

“…based on a previous upgrade in FCP, where I had to render the footage captured in the previous version to make it compatible. But that did work.”

What happened is the Render files between some versions were not compatable, not the actual Capture files. So yes, you did need to re-render, but the original capture files were 100% compatable.

100%, captures from any version from 1.0 to 6.0 are all compatable.

You could just shoot in the pool and use Shake to mask out the body. Not too difficult, but you do need to know Shake.

You want to “Log & Capture”, yeah, FCP will do it. Not something I do a lot of, as with documentary work, you want to capture inch of footage you got. But FCP will do that. Depending on your deck/camera, it’s usually a very reliable system. Always make sure you have at least 10-15 seconds of blank recorded (with TC) space at the begining of the tape, your deck can handle the FW control, etc. But, no system is 100% bullet proof. When I L&C I don’t have problems, but again, not a method I use very often.

So, you Log you In/Out points, tell FCP to Batch Capture, and it doesn’t track your tape properly. Hmmm….
