[Aharon Rabinowitz] “or my Money, it’s always going to be AMD over intel.”
At the moment, yes. I’m running Opteron workstations and Athlon FX X2 machines here.
But Intel has cleaned up their act and they’re producing faster, cooler and cheaper CPU’s than AMD now.

So either way, this is all good news, because we need that competition.

As of version 7.0 there are some processes and effects that are accellerated by the OpenGL capabilities of the GPU – even when rendering final output.
Example: Looks Suite in Magic Bullet 2.1 renders about six times faster with a good OpenGL 2.0 card (only in 8bpc though).
So OpenGL accelleration isn’t only limited to previewing. I know Knoll Light Factory is now also GPU enabled, but I don’t know for sure which Adobe plug-ins are currently benefitting.

From what I can tell, it’s a combination of ink splatter footage and processed video / masks, carefully blended together.

[Chris Smith] “Not to mention 4:2:2 vs 4:1:1.”
I think you’re referring to DigiBeta. Beta SP is of course analog and the sampling ratios depend on how you capture it.
For a while I’ve recommended shooting BetaSP and capturing uncompressed over shooting DV, for chromakeying.
But these days I find BetaSP to be noisier than DV, if you use a recent high-quality DV camera. Something like the DVX100 or Canon XL2.
Especially if you use something like Magic Bullet for DV artefacts removal, DV can produce pretty good results.
Of course if possible I’d shoot DigiBeta for chromakeying.

One thing about Andrew’s recipe for de-interlacing though: first of all you’re throwing away half of your vertical resolution by dropping every other frame. Blurring isn’t really the same as reconstructing the image – although it smoothes out things.
Second, you’re de-interlacing the entire frame, even if only parts of it might be moving. So you’re losing resolution in areas that don’t need de-interlacing.
Using AE’s built-in fields separation with motion estimation is a step upwards, since it tries to only de-interlace areas that are moving.
But in my experience Fieldskit offers more control, better quality and ease of use.

My article (although somewhat dated) was the result of my experiments trying to figure out what was the best way to de-interlace material without losing too much resolution.
While I was working on the article, FieldsKit was released and I added it to the options. As you can read in the article, I find I get the best results from Fieldskit, because it only de-interlaces the areas that need it, and leaves alone the rest. Fieldskit also uses smart ways to interpolate the fields.
Highly recommended.

Is it CMYK? AE wants RGB files. Also, AE can’t import 16-bit tifs – only 8-bit.
